Where was the baby?

A great new find here and my first to see it.

As we turned the corner I saw this and I stopped the car. My instincts screamed a message to me that something else was here.

We were driving around and looking at houses at a quieter part of the town, as we are not happy with the traffic noise at our house and are considering a move. This couple of Blacksmith Lapwings (Vanellus armatus) was sitting on a small hill in a fenced off golf course next to the road.
My instincts were correct and come to have a look.

As I approached the fence, the mother flew a bit closer to me.

The yellow bird in the reeds behind her, that she flew past in the photo above is a Cape Weaver (Ploceus capensis)

The mom landed and she greeted me in a language that sounded like German hahaha.
Nope, she was raising the alarm for her baby.

Bang! There was this little chick peeping at me through the curtain of grasses.

My first time to see a Blacksmith Lapwing baby.
The mom stopped sounding the alarm after a while, as she might have thought that I turned into a stone pillar and the baby started doing the walk.

The little one stopped to look at some imaginary worm or bug.

Then he was off again and he is going to need a big size shoe when he grows up. Look at the size of his feet.

We had to leave, as I stopped the car in front of a person's driveway and Marian called to say that they were waiting to leave their house. But luckily I had seen enough and then we were on our way.
I like the Blacksmith Lapwings and I have posted about them before at the beach and other places that they visit.
But as I said, I have never seen a baby Lapwing before and we were blessed to see this one.

And That's All Friends!

Zac, did your family decide to move into a house closer to Nature?

Sorry I only saw this now.

Yes, we would prefer to live in a house with a view, but the houses are very expensive here, so we continue to search.
