Yay! I finally got the sunbird baby.

Not any baby, but a Malachite Sunbird (Nectarinia famosa) baby, and the mom kept her hidden.

Always fun and games to search for the baby, as it is a real bird detective search, and the parents developed a new game by changing their feeding routine. In the past, as you will see in my old malachite baby posts, both parents would fly in with food for the baby. Thereby revealing the location of the nest, but this time only the mom flew in fast, and she landed in different areas. The dad didn't do any feeding, and he gave the game away by hiding in a tree when the mom came in, but his song revealed his presence.

It looked like the baby was already a couple of days old. Maybe a week or so, and you can see the mom feeding it below (2 shots).

A real cute little thing, and I was so glad to get her on camera (2 shots).

She started to stretch, and that meant that she was preparing to move (2 shots).

Yep! She popped over to have a look at the red pincushion flower (2 shots).

And finally, while the feeding was going on, the dad sat hiding in a tree, but he couldn't hide from my camera.

It takes a lot of perseverance, and so many times I have come up empty handed. Which is not a nice feeling, but I am not one of those that can give up once my mind is made up and I was determined to get the baby. The bank of bushes is very dense and some of the bushes even have thorns, so it is not easy to negotiate around between the lot. Not only the thorns, but I also picked up some spider bites on my leg. Fortunately, we have a cortisone lotion at home that takes care of the bites.

Nothing can be achieved if a person is not prepared to suffer a bit in order to obtain success. So many give up half-way, and some even at the start, as we see with new members on Hive. I have walked a long road on Hive, and at times things were not easy as I started with nothing on Hive. But the one thing that I know is that if you think Hive is a get rich scheme, then you have lost from the beginning. Hive is a long-term walk, and success will be attained by those that persevere.
Such is life.
