Broken dreams

As I walked down the quiet streets of the city, my eyes fixed on something unusual that rested on the ground. A broken doll, neglected and deprived of its legs, looked abandoned and forgotten by time. Curious, I approached it, drawn in by its mysterious aura.

The doll, once loved by someone, now seemed to have lost its essence. Its delicate and dirty face revealed a sad and lonely expression. The once beautiful clothes were missing, preventing one from imagining stories of past playtime, while the absent hair testified to the abandonment.

I picked up my camera, feeling an inexplicable need to capture that moment. The decaying scene of the doll in the midst of the urban landscape created a striking contrast. The tall, modern buildings around seemed indifferent to the existence of this broken and helpless figure.

As I knelt down to frame the perfect image, I found myself wondering who the owner of that doll had been. Was it a child who loved and cared for it with affection? Or had it been abandoned by a family that moved away? The questions echoed in my mind, but the answers remained a mystery.

In that photograph, the doll became a symbol of human fragility and the impermanence of life. It represented all the forgotten memories and stories that reside in the streets and alleyways of the city. It was as if, by photographing it, I were giving voice to a silent and helpless figure.

As I got up, leaving the doll behind, I felt a mix of melancholy and gratitude. That unexpected encounter with the broken doll made me reflect on the importance of valuing the things we have and the people we love. It also reminded me of the ephemerality of life and the beauty found in imperfections.

The photograph I took of the broken doll and its unknown story will remain as a visual reminder of that experience. An image that invites us to look more closely at the world around us and connect with the stories that often go unnoticed.
