Undoubtedly, much of the importance of a saga, and the transcendence it will have over time, lies in its story. This applies to any production, including video games. Everyone likes a good story, and if it is epic, it will surely be remembered for a long time. However, beyond the main plot, there are other subplots, "side missions" in this particular case, that show the authors' dedication to the videogame, nurture the story and give it an added value. This is something that I think GTA V, a game I already talked about before, did excellently well.

Let's start because GTA V (2013) is an open world game. In theory there are a lot of places we can roam freely, so it was necessary for things to happen in the vast map of Los Santos that involve our characters, outside of the main plot. And yes, all sandboxes (or almost all) have side missions, but many times they consist of repetitive and terse actions, with no real background and even almost no dialogue. GTA V is the opposite of the latter, and it is partly for this reason that I consider that this game stood out from others of its style.

With the three characters we control we have a lot of side missions that differ significantly from each other (depending on who we do the mission with, of course). Many of which are subdivided at the same time in several missions, which serve as chapters, and provide us with interesting data, rewards for the game and/or hilarious moments. Thus, with its style of satire, in many of these missions GTA V takes the opportunity to gestate a critique of pop culture, American society, or simply get a couple of laughs out of you.

So far I jumped from an ATV parachute being Franklin, Michael was attacked by chimps and kidnapped by aliens, I discovered that Trevor has a deal to kidnap people and deliver them to a cannibal society in the mountains, and so many other things. It's crazy, a very dark and often funny one; it makes me surprised how at times it seems that the developers of GTA V put more effort in strange and crazy than in the main plot itself. I guess it's the house specialty, in part, the essence of the saga.

Do it. It's one of those games that, in one way or another, everyone likes.
