Chełmno (Poland) - City of Lovers / Miasto Zakochanych [ENG/PL]

Chelmno is a small town (19,000 inhabitants) north of Torun, situated on a escarpment by the Vistula river, which is really worth visiting. What is most characteristic about it is the richness of medieval monuments: 6 Gothic churches, an almost complete circumference of the city walls with towers - 2.3 km and other buildings.

I think that due to its unique charm, climate and a small number of tourists, it was called the City of Lovers. The only downside is the lack of a train connection.

Going from the Market Square, from the City Hall, I recommend walking along the promenade towards the Grudziadzka Gate, and then either to the right towards the park of miniatures of Teutonic castles, made in 1:30 scale (see photos below), or to the left, where there is a bench for lovers, and then a viewing terrace on the Vistula .

Parking: there is a Paid Parking Zone on the Market Square and the streets adjacent to it. The distances between the monuments are small, so it is enough to park in one place.

Chełmno to niewielkie miasto (19 tysięcy mieszkańców) na północ od Torunia, leżące na skarpie nad Wisłą, które naprawdę warto odwiedzić. To co w nim najbardziej charakterystyczne to bogactwo zabytków średniowiecznych: 6 kościołow gotyckich, prawie kompletny obwód murów miejskich z basztami - 2,3 km oraz inne budowle.

Myślę, że ze względu na niezwykly urok własny, klimat oraz niewielką ilość turystów nadano mu miano Miasto Zakochanych. Jedyny jego minus to brak połączenia kolejowego.

Idąc od Rynku, spod Ratusza, polecam iść deptakiem w stronę Bramy Grudziądzkiej, a potem albo na prawo w stronę parku miniatur zamków krzyżackich, wykonanych w skali 1:30, albo na lewo, gdzie znajduje sie ławeczka zakochanych, a dalej taras widokowy na Wisłę.

Parkowanie: na Rynku oraz dochodzących do niego uliczkach obowiązuje Strefa Płatnego Parkowania. Odległości między zabytkami są niewielkie, więc wystarczy zaparkować w jednym miejscu.
