Livestock rearing in Nigeria
Hellllooooo agriculturists in the house..... she's pleasured to be with you guys again
Agriculture as a whole is subdivided into two (
Animal farming and agronomy (plant breeding and crop management)
So today..... We'll be discussing more on the latter which is rampant here in Nigeria
Animal farming in Nigeria covers a wide range of animals including cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chicken, turkey, rabbits, snail among others
Since there are all home breed, these animals feed on forage and fodder provided them by their caretakers
These creatures are also prone to sicknesses such as
- Mastitis
- Coccidiosis
- Contagious abortion
- Fever
- Brucellosis
And other communicable diseases
But then, how can we discern that something's wrong with our livestock.....
The body movement says it all as it becomes weak and dull
Laboured breathing
Discharge from nose and mouth
Diarrhoea
Deep coughing
At these junction it could be very disastrous allowing the affected animal to interact with others as it could pose a threat to a whole lot of it's kind therefore it is advisable that such animals should be quarantined and kept away from others
To avoid circumstances such as illnesses and it's widespread......
It is good to:
- Ensure a good vaccination schedule
- Employ the services of an expert veterinary doctor
- Ensure clean feeding troughs and environment
- Pay rapt attention to nutrition by adding necessary vitamins to food and water
- Promote density
- Ensure that animals remain clean and dry
Animal rearing in Nigeria is worth it as it generates income amongst us. Cattle rearing, the major agricultural activity is always fun as they have caretakers who lead them to greener pastures

Animal rearing is considered as tedious but it's worth the stress
