The phone call

It was a dark and silent night. Benita was at home with her family; they had just had dinner, so they all sat in the parlor together.

Benita's elder sister Ashley was on her phone while mom and dad were watching TV. Just then, dad said he wanted to go see a friend of his across the street and would like mom to accompany him. Mom went to change and also took a jacket for them.

After they left the house, Ashley immediately stood out and went to her room. She came out fully dressed, and I was asking her where she was going.
I'm going to see a friend's baby sister, and I will be back before you know it. ashley said
But you didn't tell mom and dad you would be going out; what if they get home before me? I asked her
You worry too much; I told you I would be back before you knew it. I just want to check on my friend, who just moved in. She replied, opened the door, and left.

I wanted to ask her if I could come with her because I was scared of staying at home alone, but I had no other choice. I decided to watch my favorite TV program as no one was at home and they wouldn't disturb me. I changed it to the channel of my favorite TV, and I was watching it. "The episode they were showing today is really scary," I thought to myself. but I continued watching.

It was getting really late, and my parents and sister had yet to come back. Why are they staying so long outside? I asked myself. The program has come to an end, and no one is back. I didn't bother much about it; soon enough another movie started, so I diverted my attention to the movie. The movie was interesting but very scary, and I started having wild imaginations of what happened in the movie happening in reality.

I was feeding myself with a scary imagination when the telephone rang, and just then I had another willful imagination and was scared to go and answer the phone. I had to summon more courage and go to where the telephone was and answer it.
Benita: Hello, who's speaking, please?
Unknown caller: Hi, look outside your window; I have a package for you.
With this, I became scared, because that was what the same thing in the movie said: I was so scared that I froze on the spot.
Benita: Who are you? And what do you want from me?
Unknown caller: Just look outside the window.

I slowly walked towards the window, and when I opened the curtain, a figure was standing close to the window cover in a black Halloween costume, just like in the movie. This made me freak out and scream out as loud as my voice could carry.

The next thing I heard from outside was laughter, and the voices were familiar. It turned out that my parents and sister had played a prank on me. That got me pissed off, but what could I do? I later had to let it go; my sister continued using it to make fun of me, though.
