My Leadership Journey was Difficult at the start

Hello, everyone!

This is me not understanding the terms of leadership. I didn't understand what it takes to be a leader. This is it. In my church, we have different departments with their heads, supervising the members and also looking forward to the well-being of the people.

In this department, some people knew better than I did when it came to leadership. I came into the department to see the old lions doing well in everything. My former choir director, who happens to be my predecessor is now a married woman and the mother of a child. No more in my branch but another branch. Moreover, while she was running errands for herself in preparation for her wedding, especially if she was traveling to another state to get materials for her family people, she would give me a call to stand in for her and teach songs in preparation for Sunday service. By this time, I wasn't a good singer but she pushed me through the process and I learned. I opened myself to learning even though it was difficult. By then, I wasn't conversant with the keys of a particular song. I can use the original key of the song in the rehearsal, but in the choir ministration I will use another key, that wouldn't be comfortable for the choir or me to sing. It was a difficult journey as long as I wasn't inclined to music then. I faced a lot of challenges especially when people you are leading were inclined to music than you.

Therefore, when my choir director was taken in marriage, she came in and thanked God with her husband. When she wanted to leave, she called me and whispered into my ears, "I'm taking the lead of the choir". She left happily.

I took upon the choir with ease and happiness not knowing, there was a big in it. Here, I stoop low to learn and have my rehearsal till I come to an understanding of music. I took it up with scoring simple songs and mastering the lyrics of the song and how it is sung. Leading my choir members at this preliminary stage was simple, even though I wasn't into full leadership, I faced a lot of challenges from followers. I could vividly recall, how one of them challenged me. This was what the young girl said, 'Who made you the choir director of this choir that I am giving instructions like this'. I was speechless at this point and I encouraged myself in the lord.

Furthermore, a few months later, I was appointed officially, into the leadership of the choir director. This was how I faced difficulties and challenges from the people I led. They did all sorts of things but God delivered. They said all manners of things. Their actions and their deeds were against me. I stood still and forged ahead.

Major lessons about myself through the journey.

As the saying goes, failure is a stepping stone to success. Well, It was a training ground for me to build my leadership capacity. I learned a lot, how to persevere, how to be patient, and how to be bold in the midst of adversity. In the place of leadership, I have learned how to relate with the people, and how to talk to people appropriately. Leadership has exposed me to opportunities and experiences. My music skills have abruptly grown. I am so excited to find myself a better singer with a melodious voice. Singing as a professional. I'm moving higher.

Overall, I can tell you that I have grown my leadership capacity and I now understand the module of music.

I can proudly say those difficult times, strengthen me, and brought me the ability to handle situations.

This post is in response to the hive learner's contest.

Thank you.

I love, I care, and I forgive

I remain @peckypeace.

In any department of life, it is tough to be leader especially when you are trainer. People Criticism should be taken as plus point because it triggers hard working hormones in our body. In church, you learned a lot being choir director in the music department. Now, I 'm hopeful you are enjoying those criticism and memories both.
