Who said I couldn't catch this catfish with my bare hands?

Hello, everyone!

Happy Sunday to all of you, present in this community.

Yesterday, I went to aid my church member in preparing food for a church family meeting. I went with no expectations of catching or struggling with this catfish. Yesterday was fun with these catfish swimming all over the bowel when they felt a sharp sensation on their bodies.

It was hilarious to the point, I couldn't catch one and I was bent on doing so. I finally held one with my bare hands but with the sharp slick skin of its. Due to the mucous texture of the skin, it was difficult to hold for a longer time, so I had to use my strength to do that.

These are catfish and in the local dialect, it is called ekede. Therefore these catfish can be used in different delicacies, especially in our local soup, like, afang, editan, nkon, afia efere. But it is extravagant here in my area.

This fish is sold at the market, and home and it can be ordered at any given time, except it is not available. It has a surmountable profit but the process is high and demanding and if it is not well-handled, you can lose your money.

Key points about catfish

  • Barbels:

This fish has sensory organs that resemble whiskers, that's the reason it is characterized by their barbels. Because of this sensory organs on the surface area, help them to locate food through the murky water of the sea.

  • Food/diet:

These catfish are omnivores in nature, they consume both animals and plants as part of their diet. They feed on a range of items like insects, small fish, and other incorporated sources.

  • Spawn:

We have different aquatic animals spawn, especially the female laying a mass of eggs which is fertilized by the male by releasing the sperm to the female reproductive part.

  • Commercial purpose:

Catfish are important for commercial purposes and human consumption all over the world.

Nevertheless, it was a fun day, struggling with this catfish. I held it to my satisfaction. I noticed that it has a mile voice.

Catching catfish is scary 🤣 they move a lot, slimey and they have this whisker barbs. But you did it! over where I live, we use salt to kill the catfish without handling them too much. Somehow it worked without trying to fight with them haha

Well, catfish in Indonesia might be varied from the one in Nigeria. Can you send a picture of your catfish?
