[Eng+Spa] Bike-to-Work Day + Día de ir en Bicicleta al Trabajo
Today is Friday, during the day the electricity supply has already failed me a couple of times, but despite that it can be said that it is working better than other days. The electrical failures continue in Venezuela and in truth my head has been wandering with several things, so the writing of the record of the day is a little slower than I would like. But at the very least, you should be able to complete it while it's still daylight. By the way, today a professor from the University who was my boss in the Research Unit called me, he reminded me that I have not gone in person for a while and I must return to the University next week, this remote work thing is useful (and it was very useful in quarantine) but it's time to return.
In other things in my #life, there is not much to tell, at home we have done the usual every day and there is no news. So, I better go on to tell about the ephemeris of #History that I saw in today's list, among all the celebrations and commemorations that I read in the list, it caught my attention that today is the 'Bike-to-Work Day', a celebration of a variable date that takes place every third Friday of the month of May.

Hoy es viernes, durante el día me ha fallado ya un par de veces el suministro eléctrico, pero a pesar de eso se puede decir que está trabajando mejor que otros días. Los fallos eléctricos continúan en #Venezuela y en verdad que mi cabeza ha estado divagando con varias cosas, así que la redacción del registro del día está un poco más lenta de lo que me gustaría. Pero, cuando menos, debería poder completarlo mientras aún hay luz del día. Por cierto, hoy me llamó un profesor de la Universidad que era mi jefe en la Unidad de Investigación, me recordó que tengo tiempo sin ir en persona y debo regresar la semana que viene a la Universidad, esto del trabajo remoto es útil (y fue muy útil en la cuarentena) pero ya toca regresar.
En otras cosas de mi #vida, no hay mucho para contar, en casa hemos hecho lo usual de todos los días y no hay novedades. Curiously, when I check about the World Day of this same celebration, the calendars tell me that it is not tomorrow, so I had the doubt, but I decided to go ahead with today's registration with this date. It seems that the origin of the date as third Friday is of North American origin, which was what the League of American Cyclists proposed when it promoted the idea, in 1956. It strikes me that it is something that happened after the war, but at the moment in which the United States established itself as a financier of European reconstruction, in addition to expanding its influence and consolidating itself as a world power.
The idea of using the #bicycle served to reduce fuel consumption, reduce the problem of parking vehicles, improve the general state of health of people and reduce pollution. Those same reasons could serve as good reasons for our current affairs. Personally, I learned to ride a bicycle as a child, but I didn't use it for more than riding on the grounds of my grandmother's old house.

Curiosamente, cuando reviso sobre el Día Mundial de esta misma celebración, los calendarios me dicen que no es mañana, así que me quedó la duda, pero decidí seguir adelante con el registro de hoy con esta fecha. Parece que sucede que el origen de la fecha como tercer viernes es de origen norteamericano, que fue lo que propuso la Liga de Ciclistas Americanos cuando impulsó la idea, en 1956. Me llama la atención que es algo que ocurrió en la postguerra, pero en el momento en que los Estados Unidos se establecía como financista de la reconstrucción europea, además de que expandía su influencia y se consolidaba como una potencia mundial.

At present, I live outside the city, at a distance that I could still reasonably cover with a good #bike, but I am afraid that I do not have the adequate personal security conditions to make the trip in this way. It happens that even people who travel by motorcycle on this road are at risk of having some unpleasant mishap, so making the trip by bicycle is something that I have to rule out. Besides that, my body coordination problem has been increasing over the years, so I'm not very good at physical activities, which also includes my failure in balance issues while driving a 2-wheeler.

En la actualidad, vivo fuera de la ciudad, a una distancia que aún podría recorrer razonablemente con una buena bicicleta, pero me temo que no tengo las condiciones de seguridad personal adecuadas para hacer el viaje de esa manera. Sucede que ya incluso gente que viaja en moto por esta carretera corre el riesgo de tener algún percance desagradable, así que hacer el viaje en bicicleta es algo que tengo que descartar. Además de que mi problema de coordinación corporal ha ido incrementándose con los años, así que no soy muy bueno en actividades físicas, con lo que también se incluye mi falla en cuanto a cuestiones de mantener el equilibrio mientras manejo un vehículo de 2 ruedas.
