It's Saturday, the weekend has started with a strong power failure in various parts of the country, but today that is something common in #Venezuela, I have been at home, having a calm day, with intermittent rains and with some intermittence also in the Internet signal, which causes me some annoyance when I have pending work on the computer, and I need both the electricity and the connectivity to be working as well as possible. Luckily, now that the afternoon is ending, the situation improves, so I can take advantage before something goes wrong again.

This is when you cheer yourself up, which makes me think of the old idea common among my people that we have to try to 'laugh not to cry', after all, there is another old phrase that was unkind, but I think it was very true, as I remember it was said by a comedian who suffered from depression, I think it was: 'Laugh and everyone will want to laugh with you, cry and you will cry alone'.

So both for your own mental health, and to facilitate coexistence, the best thing in these cases is to look for reasons to raise your spirits and move on.

I found all this interesting, but I had to decide on something so as not to ramble too much, I thought of #usability, as an important condition in the design, elaboration or creation of things, considering to the maximum the ease of use and access for people, this has application from industrial design, engineering (civil, automotive, systems, computer science, among other branches) as well as in the virtual world, where it has become a strong point to consider for software and applications. But I wanted to take on another topic, the same thing happened with the topic of #Quality.

It remained then to talk about the Single, the bookstore and origami… it almost sounds like the beginning of a bad old-style joke. I love #bookstores, those stores specializing in #books and the like, largely because since I was a child I have liked to read; The 'Single' thing touches me too, but finally I opted a bit for origami.

In my case, #origami attracts me because it reminds me of when decades ago, my closest sister took a course to learn Japanese at the Japanese Embassy, part of the content had to do with culture beyond words, it was quite an immersive course. Among all the things my sister practiced for the course, including ideogram calligraphy, sewing a traditional garment, and a bit of cooking, what struck me was that she was also taught origami. In fact, I recently came across the old origami manual with which she learned the basics of this #art of paper folding.

Nostalgia has made me want to try and learn a little about this centuries-old Japanese art. By the way, I forgot to mention a couple of curious things, today's date was chosen to be the anniversary of the birth of Lillian Oppenheimer (1898-1992), founder of the British Origami Society and OrigamiUSA, the first Origami group in the United States. The other thing that caught my attention is that I saw a list of origami applications that exceeded my imagination and taught me something new, I'm going to quote:

“Some of the applications of the art of origami are the following:
  • In space exploration, antennas for satellites are compacted, so they can be deployed in space.
  • In the medical field the design of nanobots and stends resembles small pieces of origami.
  • It is used for the design of objects and pieces that are compacted, such as lamps, utilitarian objects, boxes, decorative objects.
  • The designs are used in animations and other applications.”

Well, I think this is getting too long for me and I better finish it while I have a way to do it. I wish you well and that we can read each other again another time.

'Laugh and everyone will want to laugh with you, cry and you will cry alone'.

Yes, it does seem like this is true. But when you find someone willing to comfort you in your pain, you've found a great treasure.

Very interesting applications of origami. My daughter and I just picked up some origami paper from the stationary shop the other day and have been enjoying making and decorating some simple paper animals.

I have read that it is a very good activity to practice fine motor skills, in addition to stimulating creativity and three-dimensional perception.
So it's a good activity for kids :)

I really didn't know much about origami. It's funny how many inventions have migrated from playing with paper! 💪🔥

I always believe that most times your issue is your issue and your happy moments are shared.

Certainly, most people prefer that, sharing the good times, although in times of trouble it is appreciated that people who love you care about you and try to help, after all, 'a shared load weighs less' .

Origami is a beautiful art, your post brought back fond memories of my childhood when I used to make paper boats, LOL.

I also made paper boats and airplanes, it was all the origami I knew in my childhood :)
When I saw what my sister could do with paper, I was amazed, it was really very interesting, but I have lacked the discipline to practice this art.

Thanks for sharing today's history with us. Happy World Usability Day. That's the one that caught my attention amongst all.

The theme of usability is very interesting, for design, construction, engineering and many other areas, as I read, it involves from the dimensions and physical characteristics of a good or product, to the psychological, social and cultural particularities of the 'public objective' (or Target) that is going to use it.
Is very interesting.
