Wednesday night, the last day of November, and tomorrow we start the last month of the year, there are 31 days left to finish this year. I've been feeling a little lethargic today, I don't know why, it's not something physical, it's more of a mental thing, I suppose having such disordered sleep schedules is leaving some sequel, but I hope I can sleep more at night after these dates.
My day has been cold and calm, without major problems or complications, it is the kind of boring days that can be described with a simple sentence, but they are exactly the kind of days that I like, I am not one of the people who have addiction to adrenaline and rather I am a very calm person. But, because of that, my record of the day would be too simple and short, since there is nothing interesting to share, so that is the reason why I usually choose one of the ephemeris of the #History of the day to share it. Going through things, for today, I found out that it is the International Day of Information Security.

Noche de miércoles, último día del mes de noviembre, ya mañana comenzamos el último mes del año, quedan 31 días para terminar este año. Me he estado sintiendo un poco aletargado el día de hoy, no sé bien por qué, no es algo físico, más bien es una cosa de la mente, supongo que tener los horarios de sueño tan desordenados está dejando alguna secuela, pero espero poder dormir más en la noche a partir de estas fechas.
Mi día ha sido frío y calmando, sin mayores problemas o complicaciones, es la clase de días aburridos que se pueden describir con una simple oración, pero son justamente la clase de días que me agradan, no soy de las personas que tienen adicción a la adrenalina y más bien soy una persona muy tranquila. Pero, debido a ello, mi registro del día quedaría demasiado simple y breve, pues no hay nada interesante para compartir, así que esa es la razón por la que suelo escoger alguna de las efemérides de la #Historia del día para compartirla. Al revisar las cosas, para el día de hoy, me enteré de que es el Día Internacional de la Seguridad Informática.

The celebration on this date was initiated by the Association for Computing Machinery in 1988, with the aim of raising awareness among users and administrators of computer systems about #cyberattacks and #cybercrimes around the world. The point is that the date was chosen as a result of the activation of the first worm-type #virus on the #Internet at that time, which was rather the so-called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). It was a network of computers that worked between universities, research centers and military bases, this last matter made the virus problem was taken very seriously. The creator introduced it from an MIT server, taking advantage of a vulnerability in the UNIX Operating System. It is about the “Morris worms” created by Robert Tappan Morris, a graduate of Cornell University, who (as I have read) has already served his sentence and is currently a professor at MIT… things that I find a bit ironic, but I understand that It's the best possible ending.

La celebración en esta fecha fue iniciada por la Association for Computing Machinery en 1988, con el objetivo de generar conciencia en los usuarios y administradores de sistemas informáticos sobre los #ciberataques y #ciberdelitos alrededor del mundo. La cuestión es que la fecha se eligió a raíz de la activación del primer virus de tipo gusano en la Internet de ese tiempo, que más bien era la llamada #ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). Era un entramado de computadoras que funcionaba entre universidades, centros de investigación y bases militares, esté último asunto hizo que el problema del virus fuera tomado muy en serio. El creador lo introdujo desde un servidor del MIT, aprovechando una vulnerabilidad del Sistema Operativo UNIX. Se trata del “Morris worms” creado por Robert Tappan Morris, un graduado de la Universidad de Cornell, que (según he leído) ya cumplió su condena y es actualmente profesor en el MIT… cosas que yo encuentro un poco irónico, pero entiendo que es el mejor final posible.

En cuanto a la actualidad, la proliferación de la Internet, de las redes sociales y de los celulares inteligentes, además de toda clase de dispositivos que se conecta a redes y son cada vez más informatizados, la cuestión de la vulnerabilidad de la información y los crímenes cibernéticos toman un nivel preocupante. Hoy en día tenemos demasiadas cosas conectadas y dependemos demasiado de las #computadoras, las tabletas y los #celulares, en muchas partes del mundo una infección de servidores o de una red, podrían ocasionar una grave crisis que arrasaría a un país, destruyendo su economía o haciendo que el dinero de sus ciudadanos desapareciera de sus cuentas bancarias, los criminales pueden también darse mano con grupos terroristas y atacar servicios públicos o de infraestructura, creando un caos masivo que cause muertes y desorden.
Vivimos en un mundo que tiene sus peligros, pero resulta que en el mundo virtual, uno de los peligros más incontrolables y que suele ser la fuente desde donde se originan los problemas, son los humanos que usan los sistemas, acá la ingeniería social, el descuido al asignar #claves y el olvido de actualizar antivirus y programas de defensa, todo ello, nos lleva a ser más vulnerables a los ataques y es algo que recurrentemente se señala, pero no se logra corregir. El eslabón más débil y poco confiable de la cadena de seguridad de información, aún lo somos nosotros, el factor humano.
En fin, que encontré que esa conmemoración me pareció interesante, espero que saber del tema te sea entretenido y te impulse a actualizar tu #software de protección (risa personal), incluyendo el descargar a tu celular un #antivirus de confianza. Te deseo que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer de nuevo en otra oportunidad, que pases un buen #DiaInternacionalDeLaSeguridadInformatica
