[Eng+Spa] International Tiara Day + Día Internacional de la Tiara
This Wednesday is passing calmly, despite some daily electrical failures and other service failures, which is a 'normal' thing in Venezuela, so it is not new. In these recent days we have been able to communicate with my closest sister, a close cousin (both out of the country) and a close cousin who lives in a nearby town. It was nice, because of different things and distractions, sometimes you let a lot of time go by without communicating with close family or friends and that's not necessarily good.
For the rest, my #life has been calm, so there is very little to tell. For this reason, it is better to comment on today's ephemeris in #History, since it is one that is related to the idea of #Woman empowerment, the claim to provide self-care and pampering to oneself, and the idea that every #Lady is (as a girl) a Princess and (as an adult) a Queen. Today is International Tiara Day.

Este día miércoles está transcurriendo con calma, a pesar de algunas fallas eléctricas cotidianas y otras fallas de servicios, que es cosa ‘normal’ en #Venezuela, así que no es novedad. En estos días recientes hemos podido comunicarnos con mi hermana más cercana, un primo cercano (ambos fuera del país) y una prima cercana que vive en una localidad cercana. Fue agradable, debido a diferentes cosas y distracciones, en ocasiones, uno deja pasar mucho tiempo sin comunicarse con la familia cercana o las amistades y eso no es necesariamente bueno.
Por lo demás, mi #vida ha estado en calma, así que hay muy poco que contar. Por ello, es mejor pasar a comentar la efeméride del día de hoy en la #Historia, pues es una que tiene relación con la idea de empoderamiento de la #Mujer, la reivindicación de prestarse auto-cuidado y mimos a sí misma, y la idea de que toda #Dama es (de niña) una Princesa y (de adulta) una Reina. Hoy es el Día Internacional de la Tiara.

At first, I thought I was reading it wrong or that there was a typographical error in the list of events, that caught my attention and I checked about the celebration. It turns out that if there is such a celebration for today. En un principio, yo pensé que estaba leyendo mal o que había un error tipográfico en el listado de efemérides, eso me llamó la atención y revisé sobre la celebración. Resulta que si existe tal celebración para el día de hoy. Por cierto, resulta que también es la fecha de cumpleaños de la Reina Victoria, pero la efeméride no tiene que ver con ella en realidad, no sé si fue una casualidad o fue intencional, pero el origen de esta celebración nos lleva al año 2005, cuando se realiza la presentación de “Estaciones del Éxito” de Barbara Bellissimo, en Norteamérica, y se propuso animar a que toda mujer llevara el día del lanzamiento una #Tiara.
Sospecho en parte que se trataba de una estrategia de marketing enfocado en #mujeres, pero el mensaje que acompañaba la propuesta apuntaba a decirles a todas las féminas que estaba bien darse un tiempo para cuidar sé sí mismas, para disfrutar embelleciéndose y mostrar un aspecto más poderoso de sí mismas. Realmente, eso no suena mal.

En mi caso particular, en mi familia es muy común que las mujeres sean talentosas y brillantes, en muchos campos, siendo independientes y con un buen empoderamiento. Aun cuando se suele decir que mi país tiene bastante machismo, cosa que es común en muchos países, sucede que hay también la tendencia a que la mujer en Venezuela sea impulsada a cuidar mucho de su aspecto y resaltar su belleza.
Entre mi gente, lo que más nos importaba era que las niñas de la casa crecieran para ser capaces de sobrevivir en el mundo, capacitadas para tener éxito por su cuenta, para ser independientes, trabajadoras y tenaces. Pero sin renunciar a su cuidado personal y a su disfrute de la vida. Así, las mujeres cercanas en mi familia estudiaron a grado profesional o universitario, formaron familia ya cuando estaba estable en buena medida su capacidad económica, y lo hicieron como quisieron.

It reminds me that one thing that could make it a bit difficult for me in my teens was that my closest sister was superior to me in everything we did, whether it was academic grades, physical ability, artistic ability, or whatever we trained, or we were learning. I'm very fond of she, but it could be a bit heavy on a young man's self-esteem, so I have to thank a couple of therapists at the University who treated me during my student days who made me see that I was fine, that everyone had their place in this life, and I ended up more proud of she (and me) than before. Finally, that I accepted reality and was able to make peace with myself.
Now that I think about it, my sister never really liked the idea of being a 'little princess', because of that image sold in 'damsels in distress' tales, and it's impossible for me to imagine her wearing a Tiara, but for someone like her that might external ornament is not so important to you and carry with your mere presence a whole celebration :)

Me hace recordar que una cosa que me podía complicar un poco en mi adolescencia era que mi hermana más cercana era superior a mí en toda cosa que hiciéramos, ya fuera en calificaciones académicas, capacidad física, habilidad artística o cualquier cosa en que nos entrenáramos o estuviéramos aprendiendo. Vamos, le tengo mucho cariño, pero podía resultar un poco pesado para la autoestima de un joven, así que tengo que agradecer a un par de terapeutas en la Universidad que me trataron durante mi época de estudiante que me hicieron ver que estaba bien, que cada uno tenía su lugar en esta vida, y terminé más orgulloso de ella que antes, en fin, que acepté la realidad y pude hacer las paces conmigo mismo.
Ahora que lo pienso, a mi hermana nunca le gustó la idea de ser una ‘princesita’, por esa imagen vendida en cuentos de ‘damiselas en apuros’, y me resulta imposible imaginármela con una Tiara, pero para alguien como ella puede que ese ornamento externo no le sea tan relevante y lleve con su sola presencia adelante toda una celebración :)
