Louvre Pyramid + Pirámide del Louvre [Eng+Spa]
Friday, end of the week. It is a week with days off due to the religious holiday, so, if we talk about the end of work, last Wednesday would be the last day of work for some stores and workshops. I have seen this March 29 pass with very little activity. My #life passes calmly and without surprises.
Seeing how little there is to say about my personal topics, let's see what we can comment on some Anniversaries of #History for today. I found myself with the circumstance that the list of celebrations for the day I consulted first did not show me any festivities that encouraged me to write about. But, luckily, I read something in a list of #architecture anniversaries that did awaken my attention: “March 29, 1989: The pyramid is inaugurated in Paris as the new entrance to the Louvre museum.” (Original in #Spanish: https://www.diainternacionalde.com/calendario/marzo/29).

Viernes, fin de la semana. Es una semana con días libres por la festividad religiosa, así que, si se habla de fin de labores, sería el miércoles pasado el último día de trabajo para algunas tiendas y talleres. Este 29 de marzo lo he visto pasar con muy poca actividad. Mi #vida transcurre con calma y sin sobresaltos.
Viendo lo poco que hay que decir de mis temas personales, veamos que podemos comentar sobre alguna de las Efemérides de la #Historia para hoy. Me hallé con la circunstancia de que el listado de celebraciones para el día que consulté primero, no me mostró ninguna festividad de la que me animara a escribir. Pero, por suerte, leí una cosa en un listado de Efemérides de #arquitectura que sí despertó mi atención: “29 de marzo de 1989: Se inaugura en París la pirámide como nueva entrada al museo del Louvre.” (https://www.diainternacionalde.com/calendario/marzo/29).

The anniversary caught my attention, because I read a lot about the controversy that surrounded this work in the 1980s. During the government of François Mitterrand, in #France, a project was proposed in 1981 to remodel the entrance to the world-famous Museum of the Louvre. The volume of visitors to the #Louvre was no longer manageable due to the accesses to the building, which belonged to previous centuries.
The first buildings of the Louvre date back to the end of the 12th century, as a fortress, in the 16th century its military importance was reduced, and it was remodeled as the main residence for French royalty (1546). It was a residence until 1682, when King Louis XIV moved the residence to the Palace of Versailles, and designated the Louvre as an exhibition site for the royal collection, which could be considered its beginning as a #museum.
In 1789, the French Revolution came and the Ancien Régime was swept away, and that changed many things. In 1793 the museum opened, but it had to close again between 1796 and 1801, due to problems in its structure and problems in placing the collections. I am going to jump to the 80s of the 20th century, to point out that the old building difficulties became more evident, and a solution had to be found, although it may have been a somewhat drastic solution.

Me llamó la atención el aniversario, porque yo leí bastante de la controversia que rodeó esta obra en la década de los años 80. Durante el gobierno de François Mitterrand, en Francia, se propuso en 1981 un proyecto para remodelar el ingreso al mundialmente famoso Museo del Louvre. El volumen de visitantes al #Louvre ya no era manejable por los accesos a la edificación, que pertenecían a siglos anteriores.
Las primeras edificaciones del Louvre se remontan a fines del siglo XII, como una fortaleza, en el siglo XVI se redujo su importancia militar y fue remodelada como residencia principal para la realeza francesa (1546). Fue una residencia hasta 1682, cuando Luis XIV mudo la residencia al Palacio de Versalles, y designó al Louvre como sitio de exhibición de la colección real, eso se podría considerar su inicio cómo #museo.

The Louvre Museum has records in our 21st century of being the largest in the world, and also the most visited in the world, but this situation has already existed since the end of the last century. This is how the idea began that it was necessary to devise a new way to allow people to enter the museum and facilitate the flow of visitors through the different areas that comprise it.
The idea itself is not bad. But the choice of an architectural work that completely broke with the aesthetics of the rest of the buildings was (to say the least) risky. I even remember that, a few years ago, a colleague told me that there were Parisians frankly irritated with that steel and glass #pyramid. Although today it has also become an icon of #Paris and its largest museum.
Well, this was what I wanted to share today, so I say goodbye, wishing you that you are well and that we can read another time.

El Museo del Louvre tiene registros en nuestro siglo XXI de ser el más grande del mundo, y también el más visitado en el mundo, pero esta situación ya viene desde finales del siglo pasado. Así fue que comenzó la idea de que se necesitaba idear una nueva manera de dar ingreso a las personas al museo y facilitar el flujo de visitantes por las distintas áreas que le componen.
En sí la idea no está mal. Pero la elección de una obra arquitectónica que rompía plenamente con la estética del resto de las edificaciones, fue (cuando menos) arriesgada. Incluso recuerdo que, hace unos años, aun un colega me comentaba que había parisinos francamente irritados con esa pirámide de acero y cristal. Aunque en la actualidad se ha convertido también en un ícono de París y su más grande museo.
Bueno, esto era lo que quería compartir hoy, así que ya me despido, deseándote que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer en otra oportunidad.

Suele recordarme el rechazo que tuvieron por la torre Eiffel, el ser humano tiende a evitar los cambios por norma general. Cuando los cambios se presentan, para bien o para mal, genera reacciones.
Como decía una persona que admiraba: Lo único permanente es el cambio.
Es cierto que a la torre la rechazaron por casi los mismos motivos.
