Nostalgia [Eng+Spa]

A Saturday of nostalgia. This March 16 has made me remember some things from years ago in my #life. Starting with the birthday of a couple of relatives, an aunt and a cousin, who are mother and son. It just so happens that one of my little cousins was born on the same day as his mother's birthday, so we used to joke with him that he was a great birthday present.

Un sábado de nostalgia. Este 16 de marzo me ha hecho recordar algunas cosas de hace años atrás en mi #vida. Comenzando por el cumpleaños de un par de familiares, una tía y un primo, que son madre e hijo. Sucede que uno de mis primos pequeños nació el mismo día de cumpleaños de su madre, así que le solíamos bromear que él fue un gran regalo de cumpleaños.

A few years ago, this aunt died, currently my cousin lives in another country, and he has not been in this country for more than five years. He has been making life in his new country of residence for just over a decade. He had to work a lot, and very hard, to be able to get a 'floor' on which to stand. But, he always had great character, good determination, and has been good at evaluating situations and taking risks.
This little cousin, when he was very little, was partially under my care. My aunt was a little older when she got pregnant, and due to various things, he was an only child. So I was left in an older brother role.
We shared many moments, since he was in the crib. His beginnings at school, his transition to high school, his entry to university… in truth, we spent many years in which we were very close. Perhaps that is why the memories have awakened a particular nostalgia in me.

Hace algunos años, esta tía murió, en la actualidad mi primo vive en otro país y tiene más de un lustro que no ha estado en este país. Ha estado haciendo vida en su nuevo país de residencia desde poco más de una década. Le tocó trabajar bastante, y muy duro, para poder hacerse de un ‘piso’ sobre el cual ponerse en pie. Pero, él siempre tuvo un gran carácter, buena determinación, y ha sido bueno evaluando situaciones y asumiendo riesgos.
Este primo pequeño, cuando era muy pequeño, estuvo parcialmente bajo mi cuidado. Mi tía era un poco mayor cuando quedó embarazada, y debido a diversas cosas, él era hijo único. Así que yo quedé en un papel de hermano mayor.
Compartimos muchos momentos, desde que estaba en la cuna. Sus inicios en la escuela, su paso a la secundaria, su ingreso a la universidad… en verdad que pasamos muchos años en que fuimos muy cercanos. Quizás por eso las memorias me han despertado una particular nostalgia.

This nostalgia is something I do not reject. I have believed for years that nostalgia is better than regret. In the case of nostalgia, what is missed is a 'good time that has already passed'. But in regret, what you regret is 'missing' something that never happened.

Esta añoranza es algo que no rechazo. He creído por años que es mejor la nostalgia que el arrepentimiento. En el caso de la nostalgia, lo que se extraña es un ‘buen tiempo que ya pasó’. Pero en el arrepentimiento, lo que se lamenta es ‘extrañar’ algo que nunca sucedió.
De este tiempo que recuerdo con mi tía y mi primo, tengo nostalgia, mucho más que arrepentimientos. Puede que de lo que me arrepienta un poco es el no haber compartido más cosas o más tiempo, pero sé que compartimos varios buenos momentos, y eso alegra el recuerdo.
Bueno, el registro del día me ha quedado muy introspectivo, eso es un poco distinto a lo usual. Pero, por hoy, está bien. Ya me despido, deseándote que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer de nuevo en otra oportunidad.

Recordar es volver a vivir, es lo que así nos dice aquel viejo refrán. Algunas veces nuestra memoria nos juega malas pasadas y recordamos las cosas como queremos y no como realmente fueron.
Pero es el vicio o el lujo de cada quien.
