Spanish Version Bellow

It's Tuesday night, and it's the last day of the month. This April went by at tremendous speed, from my perspective. In reality, nothing happened to stand out in the aspects of my personal #life. I worked a little from the computer at home, and helped with a couple of minor things around the house. So it surprises me that I have the perception that these days have flown by, when in reality my life is going quite calmly.

Well, let's better move on to the topic of the title of this post. Since, despite being a daily record post, considering how quiet my life can be, it is better to complement it with comments on some anniversary of #History. Otherwise, the post might not be very long.

Today's celebration is on the theme of #food, and it is about a dried fruit that I find interesting. It is an ingredient in several cooking preparations in the culinary tradition of my country, and is part of the cultural heritage that we have from the Iberian Peninsula, since the times of European colonization in America. Today is Raisin Day.

Personally, I like #raisins, even as #sweet snacks. Although I know that there are people who hate these dried grapes, going so far as to hate them in any dish they are in. I suppose my case has to do with the fact that I learned to eat them since I was a child, as part of the dishes on the Christmas table.

Well, the day has been celebrated by a North American initiative since 1909. At that time, raisin producers in the State of California promoted the idea of celebrating this product every April 30. I thought about it for a while, and it didn't seem strange to me that it was this way, California was part of the territory of the Spanish Empire, during the 15th to 18th centuries, in America. And the Spanish brought with them crops and food preparation techniques.

So, although the initiative of the festival is North American, the root of this cultivation goes back to the Hispanic heritage. On the other hand, I remembered that I had seen another celebration date for the raisin, and after checking, I found that it was a festival from a region of Spain, which is celebrated on September 18.

Although it seems that the Spanish festival is almost medieval, it seems that its scope has been rather local. In recent years it has received greater government support for its recognition, but it seems that the North American proposal has an advantage in that part of internationalization.

Let's get back to the raisin issue. These small dried grapes can come in different colors, depending on the grape variety used as a base for their preparation. But the most common and popular colors are two: Yellow and black. In reality, yellow is a color perception that remains after drying white grapes, of the Sultanina variety, and black is rather an extremely intense violet color, a product of drying grapes of the Corinto variety.

The more I talk about raisins, the more I want to eat a few (personal smile). I guess that tomorrow, when I have to go out to buy groceries, I'll take the opportunity to see if there are any portions of raisins for sale, and I'll buy them.

I'm late and it's time to publish. I say goodbye, wishing you that you are well and that we can read again another time.
