St. Patrick + San Patricio [Eng+Spa]
We are on the night of Sunday the 17th, this month of March seems to me to go by quickly. Even so, I lead my #life calmly, I suppose it is for reasons of my personal preference and my somewhat hermit character. I had planned to make a cake today, but due to a couple of details during the day, I forgot, and it will be left for tomorrow.
I have no more personal news, so I allow myself to comment a little on an ephemeris of #History for this day, which on this occasion has to do with a diaspora of a European population. Well, actually it has to do with the founding history of a European nation, and then (with certain colonial incidents) it spread to different countries, becoming a fairly well-known celebration on at least two continents. Today was 'St. Patrick's Day'.

Estamos en la noche del domingo 17, este mes de marzo me pareciera que transcurre rápido. Aun así, llevo mi #vida con calma, supongo que es por cuestiones de mi preferencia personal y mi carácter un poco ermitaño. Tenía previsto hacer un pastel hoy, pero debido a un par de detalles durante el día, lo olvidé y ya quedará para mañana.
No tengo más novedades personales, así que me permito comentar un poco sobre una efeméride de la #Historia para este día, que en esta oportunidad tiene que ver con una diáspora de una población europea. Bueno, en realidad tiene que ver con la historia fundacional de una nación europea, y luego (con unos ciertos incidentes coloniales) se propagó a distintos países, convirtiéndose en una celebración bastante conocida en, al menos, dos continentes. Se celebró hoy el ‘Día de San Patricio’.

No tengo más novedades personales, así que me permito comentar un poco sobre una efeméride de la #Historia para este día, que en esta oportunidad tiene que ver con una diáspora de una población europea. Bueno, en realidad tiene que ver con la historia fundacional de una nación europea, y luego (con unos ciertos incidentes coloniales) se propagó a distintos países, convirtiéndose en una celebración bastante conocida en, al menos, dos continentes. Se celebró hoy el ‘Día de San Patricio’.

This celebration was born as part of the dates of the Christian Catholic saints, in commemoration of the death of the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. During his life, this man was a priest, farmer, missionary, and writer. Several notable achievements are attributed to him, such as the introduction of #Christianity to the territory of what is now #Ireland, the eradication of snakes in this country. Also, the metaphor of using the clover as an analogy for the 'Holy Trinity', in which one God is three persons at the same time.
The #clover thing seems to me to be a good resource to explain his point of view, plus using something that was very available in nature makes it easy. There is a detail with the theme of snakes, since there are sources that indicate that in reality there should not have been any on the large island, due to its early separation from the continent. Although some believers point out that not finding snakes is already proof of the miracle of their eradication… in short, it is difficult for me to refute a statement that is based on faith.

Esta celebración nació como parte de las fechas del santoral católico cristiano, en conmemoración de la muerte del #Santo patrono de Irlanda, San Patricio. Durante su vida, este hombre fue sacerdote, agricultor, misionero y escritor. Se le atribuyen varios logros notables, tales como la introducción del #cristianismo en el territorio de los que hoy en día es #Irlanda, la erradicación de las serpientes en este país, y la metáfora de usar el trébol como analogía de la ‘Santísima Trinidad’, en que un solo Dios es tres personas a la vez.
Lo del trébol, me parece un buen recurso para explicar su punto de vista, además de que usar algo que estaba muy disponible en la naturaleza lo hace fácil. Hay un detalle con el tema de las serpientes, pues se hallan fuentes que indican que en realidad no debería haber habido ninguna en la gran isla, por su separación temprana del continente. Aunque algunos creyentes señalan que el no encontrar serpientes es ya una prueba del milagro de su erradicación… en fin, me es difícil rebatir un señalamiento que se sustenta en la fe.

This #saint, born in the Roman province of Britannia, lived between the 4th and 5th centuries of our common era. I suppose that with such distance in the timeline, one would never imagine that the commemoration of his death would travel so many kilometers, as to give life to large demonstrations of people beyond the Atlantic.
I was commenting to my brother that perhaps the great migrations of Irish people, whether because of the Potato Famine, or because of religious conflicts (between Anglican #Christians and Catholic Christians), or because of something else. Well, all that motivated people to have to migrate and seek life in other latitudes, led them to travel along with their traditions.
In each place they settled, these #traditions became elements of cohesion and support within their groups. And that is something very valuable.
In my case, I did not know much about this celebration, since in my country it is not celebrated to a large extent, so I became interested in it recently. But, I learned that in other Latin American countries it seems that this date is celebrated, due in part to the fact that they received emigrants from Ireland in recent centuries.
Well, anyway, I guess I can celebrate by wearing a green outfit, wishing a better year for everyone, and saying a prayer. I say goodbye now, hoping that we will meet again soon.

Este santo, nacido en la provincia romana de Britania, vivió entre los siglos IV y V de nuestra era común. Supongo que con tal distancia en la línea de tiempo, nunca se imaginaría que la conmemoración de su muerte viajaría tantos kilómetros, como para dar vida a grandes manifestaciones de gente más allá del Atlántico.
Yo le comentaba a mi hermano, que quizás las grandes migraciones de irlandeses, ya fuera por la Hambruna de la Papa, o por los conflictos religiosos (entre cristianos anglicanos y #cristianos católicos), o por cualquier otra cosa. Bien, todo eso que motivó a que la gente tuviera que migrar y buscar la vida en otras latitudes, llevó a que viajaran junto con sus #tradiciones.
En cada sitio que se asentaron, estas tradiciones se convirtieron en elementos de cohesión y de apoyo a lo interno de sus grupos. Y eso es algo muy valioso.
En mi caso, yo no conocía mucho de esta celebración, pues en mi país no se celebra en gran medida, así que me interesé por ella fue hace poco. Pero, me enteré de que en otros países latinoamericanos parece que sí se celebra esta fecha, debido en parte a que recibieron población emigrante de Irlanda en los siglos pasados.
Bien, como sea, supongo que puedo celebrarlo vistiendo una prenda verde, deseando un mejor año para todos, y elevando una plegaria. Ya me despido, deseando que nos volvamos a leer pronto.

Llego a parecerme extraño, que no estuviese en nuestro país más presencia de esta tradición. Tenemos historia de haber recibido grandes migraciones de todas partes del mundo.
Es de verdad llamativo, que habiendo recibido, durante muchos siglos, migración de muchos países, resulta que no tenemos en realidad mucha población de ascendencia irlandesa, al menos hasta donde he podido averiguar.
Hay, desde la época de la Guerra de Independencia, vínculos con gente del Imperio Británico, pero parece que tal gente, que sirvieron como soldados y echaron luego raíces como ganaderos, eran de otras zonas del imperio insular.
