A colleague recommended a video to me just to "pass the time." Naively, I thought: well, it’ll probably be short. Wrong. It turned out to be a story spanning over two hours about time travel, artificial intelligence, tech companies, and a protagonist dealing with way too many problems.

I listened to the video in #spanish; the title (translated into English) would be "He died poor in 2032 and woke up in 2009 with an AI from the future" and is available on #YouTube. To be honest, the title didn't really win me over. It sounded like one of those videos that promise more than they deliver. But I was wrong... sort of. 😅

The premise: heading back to the past with an edge

The story follows a lead developer at an #AI tech company. In 2032, he gets fired and, shortly after, suffers a fatal accident. When he opens his eyes, he’s no longer in the future: he’s back in 2009, 18 years old, in his young body... and armed with all the memories of what’s to come.

Here’s the interesting part: appearing alongside him is the prototype core of his most important creation—an AI named Lumen. It’s a small device, roughly the size of a smartphone, but it’s damaged. If he doesn't act fast, it could stop working in less than 30 days. ⏳

The mission? Make money, network, start a company, and build the infrastructure needed to save Lumen. Not exactly easy, right? Especially when you have knowledge of the future but a student's budget.

What surprised me

Even though the channel uses the word "manhwa," the visuals don't look like a traditional #manhwa. It’s clearly evident that they were generated using artificial intelligence. The narrator's voice also sounds like AI, and I wouldn't be surprised if the script had some AI assistance.

And here’s the funny thing: the flaws are glaringly obvious. Characters change clothes within the same scene, as if they’d stepped into a magical fitting room between shots. 👕✨ Sometimes, the visual continuity seems to say, "Trust me—you know who’s who."

Even so, the story hooked me. Not because of its technical perfection, but because of its pacing and premise. It features entertaining moments, interesting allies, and a pretty smart antagonist... though one with an ego the size of a server farm. 😄

A villain with a character issue

The antagonist isn't stupid. That makes him more dangerous. He displays narcissistic traits and doesn't take kindly to anyone rejecting his offers or questioning his authority.

He’s the type of businessman who interprets a "no, thanks" as a declaration of war. From that point on, his goal shifts from simply making money to destroying the protagonist. A classic trope, but it works within the story.

A classic!

The ending leaves the door open

The video chronicles over 20 years of rises, falls, alliances, and corporate battles. Best of all, the ending—while open-ended—successfully wraps up the initial story arc.

But one detail really got me thinking: a hidden message appears at the end, telling the protagonist: "Don't let him die again." 🤔

Does that mean the time travel wasn't the protagonist's idea? Or that the Lumen prototype didn't actually have anything to do with it? Because, when you think about it, something is odd: the protagonist returns to his younger body, but the Lumen core travels intact inside its prototype casing (even though there's no explanation for how they actually went back in time). Those are two very different ways of returning to the past. That isn't explained... and precisely for that reason, it leaves you wanting to know more.

My final take

I found it entertaining that a story about AI—created using AI-generated images and AI voices—features a key AI character that I found genuinely interesting. Lumen isn't just a simple tool; she contributes ideas, makes incisive observations, and even saves the group on more than one occasion.

Without the AI character's contributions, the story would lose much of its charm. It’s as if the adventure's true, hidden heart isn't the programmer, but the AI that accompanies and complements him. 🤖💙

All in all, it’s not a visual masterpiece. It has flaws, sure. But as entertainment, it delivers. And as the seed of a good sci-fi story, it has potential. If you enjoy plots about second chances, technology, and personal growth, give it a try. I enjoyed it more than I expected. 😊
