It is a Saturday that ends, quite calmly and, with several good news from relatives who live in other latitudes. I spent the day calmly at home, it's the kind of days I like to have in my #life. I don't have much to report in my daily log, so I thought I would go straight into commenting on today's anniversary of #History.
Today, October 21, has (among its various anniversaries), a celebration dedicated to an auxiliary discipline of almost all the #sciences that I can imagine. It is a date related to #numbers, graphs and formulas, since today should be celebrated 'World Statistics Day'.

Es un sábado que termina, con bastante calma y con varias noticias buenas de familiares que viven en otras latitudes. Yo he pasado el día con tranquilidad en casa, es la clase de días que me gustan tener en mi #vida. No tengo mucho que reportar en mi registro diario, así que pensaba entrar directamente en comentar sobre la efeméride de la #Historia que hay para hoy.
El día de hoy, 21 de octubre, tiene entre sus diversas efemérides, una celebración dedicada a una disciplina auxiliar de casi todas las ciencias que puedo llegar a imaginarme. Es una fecha relacionada con #numeros, gráficas y fórmulas, pues hoy se debería celebrar el ‘Día Mundial de la Estadística’.

Bien, digo que se debería celebrar hoy esa fecha, pero en realidad, no la estamos celebrando... la situación me pareció muy rara, pero descubrí que cuando la fecha fue propuesta por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas, se celebró por primera vez en 2010, se tomó la peculiar decisión de que se celebraría cada 5 años… Entonces, no es una celebración anual, sino que se debe esperar un lustro (conjunto de 5 años) para que sea formalmente celebrado, así que en realidad el siguiente día de esta festividad es en 2025.
A pesar de eso, yo encontré interesante la fecha, después de todo, cuando estudiaba en la universidad, las materias de estadísticas fueron las que dieron la mayor cantidad de dolores de cabeza, puesto que para su aprendizaje se requería desarrollar un pensamiento ordenado, sistemático y muy organizado, características que son casi completamente contrarias a la cultura tropical común en la que vivimos en esta parte del mundo.

Sin embargo, aprendí las materias y también aprendí su valor, de hecho, cuando me convertí en profesor me dediqué a metodología de la investigación, y debo confesar que teníamos que usar bastante estadística para los procesos de investigación bajo enfoque cuantitativos. Así que, si bien no daba clases de estadísticas, necesitaba referirme a ellas constantemente en algunas de las clases dedicadas a lo que era el procesamiento de datos e información.

Que se celebren cada cinco años, me parece un dato curioso en verdad. Lo normal es que estas celebraciones sean anuales.
Me hace recordar que los censos se hacen justamente cada 10 o 5 años, supongo que la idea de la celebración copia esta idea de los periodos separados por grupos de años.
