avatar

This is the first edition of HIVE NEWS.

Hive is new, the news is new, and it's moving fast. So it's going to take a few days to make sure all the right sources are being followed to pick up the latest developments.

If you spot anything that has been missed please comment below, or message on Discord (Pennsif#9921).

Suggestions on sections to include and stats to pick up on are welcome.

First the basics...

The new Hive fork of the Steem blockchain was announced yesterday.

The Hive.io site is already live, but the new Hive chain will not be switched on until Friday, 2pm UTC.

Steem accounts and posts will be carried across and there will be a 1:1 airdrop of the new Hive coins for existing STEEM, Steem Power and SBD. The airdrop will be for all accounts except Steemit Inc related accounts...

The only accounts who will not be included in the initial airdrop are those containing the Steemit Inc ninja-mined stake, and those who actively contributed to (and publicly declared support for) the centralization of the Steem Blockchain.

Apps, dApps & Projects...

Many of the main apps, dApps and projects have announced they will be either be moving exclusively to Hive, or at least dual-running on both chains.

Those confirmed as moving, or operating on Hive, include Steempeak (to be rebranded), Actifit, Steemitworldmap & Haveyoubeenhere, SteemStem (now HiveStem), Curiesteem.com, Dpoll, Steem.Chat (now openhive.chat), OCD and thegoodwhales.com, C-Squared, Global Blacklist API, Curangel...

@smooth has announced that @burnpost will move to Hive...

And @splinterlands has now announced its plans regarding Hive...

Witnesses...

The large majority of former top witnesses have declared their support for Hive including...

Witness @jackmiller is looking to set up a 'radio show' about Hive...

And @thecryptodrive has declared his support for Hive, but will also be trying to save Steem as well...

Community...

There has been a large groundswell of support for Hive from all levels in the community including...

And people have questions too...

Exchanges...

Already two major exchanges have declared they will support the Airdrop for STEEM held on their exchanges.

@jrcornel, @rycharde and @jayplayco report on Binance...

And @jrcornel also reports on Huobi...

And ionomy has now just declared their support for the Hive fork as well...

This is #1 (18 Mar '20) of the new Hive news service.

Hi @pennsif, thank you for all this very complete information. Do you have any information about Bittrex? Someone told me they will do but I can't find any confirmation.

Some great news in there. Hoping @steemchiller finds it worthwhile to offer a steemworld clone.

"I'm still processing the new reality that is coming to light these days. Not much money/motivation left to be able to continue something that failed with the same people again.

I won't leave Steem, that for sure. If hive needs a HiveWorld (would prefer a different name) and I would earn enough for all the work and new servers/domains, I might join, but at the moment I stay cautious.

Two things must be done on hive at least:

Limit the number of witness votes one account can do to ~ 5
Disable witness votes for active witnesses (kings should not be able to vote for sub kings)"

Thanks for this @pennsif

Why are Binance being airdropped though? They were part of the hostile takeover.

Binance has posted an announcement in the last hour entitled: Binance Will Support the Upcoming Steem Hard Fork and Distribute the New HIVE Token to STEEM holders

On the face of it, great news, but please read the article carefully.

We will take a snapshot of all STEEM tokens held by Binance users at the time of the fina Steem block prior to 2020/03/20 2:00 PM (UTC) and will distribute HIVE tokens at a ratio of 1 STEEM = 1 HIVE.

Notice that Binance will take its own snapshot of STEEM tokens held by Binance users. Nothing wrong with that.

But,

STEEM tokens held in sub-accounts will be combined into the corresponding master account. Sub-accounts will not separately receive any HIVE tokens.

This clause may, in itself, create discrepancies between who owns how many HIVEs.

And finally,

For the trading and listing of HIVE on Binance, HIVE will go through the same strict listing review process as Binance does for any other coin/token. Supporting this hard fork does not guarantee the listing of HIVE.

So, a very quick post just so that the large team working on Hive have a chance to form a response to these points. Plus also, to inform the community to read beyond the headlines.
Source @rycharde

It was mentioned in Discord that those high up in Hive want Binance to list HIVE so they can sell their STEEM quickly at a decent price before it crashes. I don't know if this is true. But this should not be a consideration! If it is, it does not bode well for the integrity of Hive. Please let it not be so. Please reconsider Airdropping Binance.

After what Binance did, we should not even ALLOW them to list HIVE (i don't know if it's possible to stop them?).

@jackmiller @netuoso @roelandp @anyx @therealwolf @drakos @pharesim and anyone else. Please share your views on this before it's too late and Binance and Justin Sun get airdropped HIVE

The exchanges made mistakes, they corrected it (Binance and Huobi did, but not Poloniex because Justin Sun has direct ties with them and owns a stake there) and are willing to work with Hive. On Hive, accounts that freshly power up won't be able to vote before 30 days, and by now it's VERY clear to the exchanges that their meddling in governance will not be permitted. It's a good start to insure and protect the new chain, but further ideas and development will be needed to improve its security against takeovers.

Justin can't be 100% prevented from getting the airdrop; even if he does, he will be powerless on Hive.

@drakos. I appreciate your reply.

You think Binance corrected their mistake? I'm not so sure about that. Maybe they aplogised and unstaked, but corrected?

The only accounts who will not be included in the initial airdrop are those containing the Steemit Inc ninja-mined stake, and those who actively contributed to (and publicly declared support for) the centralization of the Steem Blockchain.

Ok, perhaps Binance did not publicly declare support for centralisation, but their actions certainly supported it, and still appear to be doing so:

They allowed Justin Sun to withdraw, yet others cannot! It seems they are still in his pocket.

@andrachy thinks so too it appears: https://twitter.com/andrarchy/status/1240306838366797824

And what are your thoughts on this point?

It was mentioned in Discord that those high up in Hive want Binance to list HIVE so they can sell their STEEM quickly at a decent price before it crashes. I don't know if this is true. But this should not be a consideration! If it is, it does not bode well for the integrity of Hive.

Do we really need Binance to list Hive immediately?
Do we really need to airdrop them immediately?
Can we not at least wait & get a consensus from users before deciding whether to do so or not?

Thanks for your attention.

Hey,
While I am not a fan of Binance's actions, I have steem on that account. :/ Sure, I could sell it to BTC, send it to block trades, get hit with a fee for the transfer, then buy at a slightly worse rate to get steem but I am not verified on Block trades so I would need 2 days to do the process and it would be costly for me.

I loved steem and intend to love on Hive.

So, yea, sticking it to the exchanges are good.. but you end up hurting us who can not take our steem off the exchanges without a bit fee.

What do you propose for people like me?
Should I get punished for the fuckery of the exchange?
I tried to take just the steem off the other day, I cant as they are powered up. :/

Hey Jacuzzi

What I meant in my comments was not to Airdrop the Binance account(s) on Hive, but instead to airdrop the individual clients (like you) of Binance once they transfer the STEEM or SP or SBD back onto Steem blockchain, thus hopefully being able to separate Justin Suns holdings with Binance and not airdrop him. If however it were to be done this way (and I really don't know what is best) then you guys should get compensated by Binance. They have already said they will do that, but it was a fixed amount they spoke of, which seems strange. Or maybe I am remembering wrongly and it was Huobi who said that. I guess I don't actually fully know what I'm talking about and should just shut the f##k up!

But, as you say, you (nor I, as I only just started to power down my SP) cannot withdraw yet anyway. One thirteenth of our SP every week is all we can withdraw and sell. At the moment the STEEM price is sky high I guess because people are buying to get the HIVE airdrop, but potentially it could crash to nothing quickly if a large majority stop using Steem and instead use Hive, and try to sell their STEEM (which is what I intend to do so I can buy more HIVE). And that's the way it's looking. I have about 45000 SP which could be worth nothing by the time it's powered down. But at least I will have the same amount of HIVE (and you and all other Binance STEEM holders should get that too, EXCEPT Justin Sun), and in Tim I expect that to be worth way more than StEEM

So, to sum up, I was not proposing that the Binance clients (except JS) do not get airdropped, but that there is a delay so they get airdropped individually once withdrawn from Binance.

Maybe another way would be for Steemians with STEEM or SP held if chain, have to claim the Hive airdrop, showing proof of the holdings on Binance.

But, anyway I think this is not relevant anyway as it looks like the Binance account(s) will be airdropped in full tomorrow and they will distribute it to you guys (and JS). In the greater scheme of things my voice is little more than a minnow. Hopefully better governance will come it of this for Hive so all get to be heard and come to a concensus before such decisions are made. This however was/is an emergency situation so something has to be done without concensus as we don't have a suitable mechanism in place for that, yet.

Sorry for the rambling. Peace and Love

Yeah, that's it!
I had to close all positions and switch to @bittrex: @binance-hot has disappointed me very much!

 wasn't just Binance and Huobi part of the "hostile takeover" on steem?! And everyone was: "go leave binance, take the money and run, spam the message all over to never use their services anymore!"
