Hello everyone! Pozdrav svima!

This week I'm going to show you how to play when faced Explosive Weaponry ruleset.

The Ruleset

First of all lets see what this ruleset is all about. How to take advantage of it and how to defend against it, or generally what you need to pay attention to.

ruleset_explosive-weaponry.png

All units gain the Blast ability.
Additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up.

This is very fun ruleset to play with. You can approach it in two ways - try to be faster then your opponent and hit harder (spread damage), giving him no time to fight back; or you can play defensively using Taunt Monsters with Reflexion Shield Monster next to it, limiting the Blast damage, or use damage mitigation abilities, like Shield and Void.

One of the best cards for this ruleset if you want to play offensively is the Fire splinter Summoner Conqueror Jacek with Scattershot, Piercing and additional Speed. It fits perfectly to this ruleset.

Generally, Scattershot is the ability I look for in this ruleset, so I will mention a couple of Monsters that I use regularly:

But, Reflexion Shield is the ability that is equally important in this ruleset. That ability was introduced into the game with last batch of Chaos Legion reward cards and continued with Riftwatchers and later sets.

Some of the mentioned Monsters I used in the battle I will show you in this post, so make sure you read on.

THE BATTLE

This is the part of the post where I will show you one of my battles featuring Explosive Weaponry ruleset.

I used an explosive combination of summoner and Monsters (pun intended 😆), but so did my opponent. Read on and you will find out who won, how and why.

Battle Ruleset

First, I will try to explain each part of today's battle ruleset, so you get the better understanding what was I thinking when I picked my line-up.

Ruleset.png

Going the Distance
Only units with ranged attacks may be used.
Monsters with Close Range, Return Fire and Headwinds are valuable in this ruleset.

Heavy Hitters
All Monsters have the Knock Out ability.
This is a fun ruleset when you have a Monster with Stun ability in the team, because you do double damage to stunned enemies.

Explosive Weaponry
All Monsters have the Blast ability.
The best strategy is to have fast monsters with Scatter, Snipe, Sneak, Opportunity abilities. Reflexion Shield, Shield and Void are a great defense.

Mana cap for this battle is 56 mana
This is high mana pool, so we have can choose strong Monsters for our teams.

Available splinters
For this battle we had Fire, Earth, Death and Dragon splinters available. My opponent and I both chose Fire splinter.

Battle Strategy

Both my opponent and I had the similar approach to this battle. We both chose the same Summoner - Conqueror Jacek and four (out of six) same Monsters. But those two that were different made a whole lot of difference.

Battle Line-Up

You can see the line-up from both teams in battle screenshot right after this section. I will go through my line-up and explain why was each card picked and put in that spot.

SUMMONER
Summoner

CONQUEROR JACEK

Fire splinter Legendary summoner that costs 6 mana. Amazing for this ruleset.

+2 Speed to friendly Monsters.
Piercing - If Melee or Ranged attack damage is in excess of the target's Armor, the remainder will damage the target's Health.
Scattershot - This monster's attacks hit a random enemy target (ignores Taunt).

This is one of the popular summoners lately, ever since Kitty moved to Wild because of the extra speed it brings.
1st POSITION ("TANK")
Tank

MOLTEN ASH GOLEM

Fire splinter Common card. Costs 6 mana and has 2 Ranged attack and a lot of HP.

Close Range - Can perform ranged attacks from the first position.
Weaken - Reduces the Health of all enemy Monsters (-1 HP).

I chose this Monster as a tank because it has Close Range and nice HP.
2nd POSITION
2ndPosition

LAVA LAUNCHER

Fire splinter Epic card. Costs 9 mana and has 4 Ranged attack.

Close Range - Can perform ranged attacks from the first position.
Stun - When a Monster with Stun hits a target, it has a chance (50%) to stun the target causing it to skip its next turn.

I picked this Monster to be secondary tank, because it has Close Range and nice Armor, plus the Stun goes great with Heavy Hitters ruleset.
3rd POSITION
5thPosition

ASH MIRAGE

Fire splinter Common card. Costs 7 mana and has 3 Ranged attack.

Headwinds - Reduces the Ranged attack of all enemy Monsters (-1).
Reflexion Shield - This Monster is immune to all indirect, or reflected damage. That means that it will not take damage from Blast, Thorns, Return Fire, or Magic Reflect.

I picked this Monster because of its speed, good Ranged attack and both of his abilities are very useful in this battle's ruleset.
4th POSITION
2ndPosition

COUNTESS SINASH

Fire splinter Legendary card. Costs 8 mana and has 4 Ranged attack.

Opportunity - Monsters with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health.
Camouflage - This Monster cannot be targeted for attacks unless it's in the first position.
Swiftness - All friendly Monsters have increased Speed.
Affliction - When a Monster with Affliction hits a target, it has a chance (50%) of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.

I picked this Monster for its Ranged attack and speed buff, other 3 abilities were unused in this battle.
5th POSITION
5thPosition

RUSH TOWNSEND

Fire splinter Legendary Rebellion card. Costs 9 mana and has 5 Magic attack.

Ambush - Units with this ability start combat before the first round of the battle even starts and may perform any actions.
Affliction - When a Monster with Affliction hits a target, it has a chance (50%) of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.

I picked this Monster for the speed, high Ranged damage and Ambush!
6th POSITION
5thPosition

TINDERLOCK

Fire splinter Rare card. Costs 10 mana and has 3 Ranged attack.

Last Stand - Gains increased stats (x1.5 rounded up) if it's the only Monster on the team alive.
Close Range - Can perform ranged attacks from the first position.
Silence - Reduces the Magic Attack of all enemy Monsters (-1).

I chose this Monster and put him all the way to the back so in case it's last one alive it can benefit from Last Stand and Close Range.

Battle Flow

This was quite short battle, only 3 rounds, plus the preparation/ambush round.

Round0Title.png

Round0.gif

Preparation/Ambush round consisted of buffing/debuffing and a single shot from my Rush Townsend, whose shot hit the most important target - enemy Drybone Raider, and damaging Lava Launcher and Molten Ash Golem along the way.

Round1Title.png

Round1.gif

Immediately after his Ambush shot Rush had another chance to attack, since he was the fastest Monster in the battlefield. This time his shot was not so effective, since he hit Lava Launcher and Blast damage hit Ash Mirage who has Reflection Shield. But at least Drybone got some more damage.
Shots were raining down from both sides, resulting in two casualties one the enemy and one on my side. His Drybone Raider didn't manage to get a single shot out.

Round2Title.png

round2.gif

Round two produced three more killed Monsters on the opponent's side, leaving Tinderlock as last man standing, activating his Knock Out ability.

Round3.png

round3.gif

But not even the Last Stand helped poor Tinderlock - he got fatal blow from my Rush Townsend which was doubled by Knock Out as he was Stunned by Lava Launcher round before.

This was a Brawl Battle in Gold league Modern fray (Chaos Legion + Rebellion sets). So it was a very valuable win. Pirates, yarr! 😎

For those who wish to learn more

In the introduction of this post, I mentioned how to utilize this ruleset and how to defend against it. After I've shown you with the main battle how to play offensively, in this section I will show you a few examples of defensive play battles.

splitter1.png

Taunt Monster as a tank with a Reflection Shield Monster behind it. This strategy was viable because Fire splinter was not available, so I was relatively safe from Scattershot. Noxius Fumes added a bit more excitement to the whole thing.

splitter2.png

Another great way to redirect enemy fire is by using Lily Shieldpaw summoner with Grimbardun Smith as a tank. Reflection Shield Monster behind it in form of Tider Biter, lots of Tank Heal Monsters and you're set for a boring but comfortable win.

splitter3.png

This battle is an example how you can assume that you're opponent will attack you frontally, prepare for that, but then he surprises you and goes with Sneak Monsters. Luckily I won this one because I had a couple of failsafe measurements in the back.
