HOW POOR UNDERLYING PEN STRUCTURE CAN CAUSE MORTALITY RATE THAT MAY CUT DOWN YOUR PROFIT.

To start with, one thing is essential when its comes o raising broiler birds. Almost every aspect of poultry farm business is very important but there are certain things that must come first before others follow. It's where you are keeping the birds that should be one of the most important things. Before getting most of the things to use for raising the broiler birds, the pen which is going to house the broiler chicken must be put in place first before any other things like tools, litter materials, feeds, drinkers, feeders and the day old birds itself.

The pen and its underlying structure.

When setting up a poultry pen, a lot of things have to be considered in other to avoid mortality rate most especially during the heat season which undoubtedly proved to stress birds during this period most especially birds from 4 weeks to 5 weeks upward. Things to consider are stated below.

• The height of the pen: Basically, you stand an advantage if you consider raising the roof of your pen above height so that there will be cross ventilation revolving round the pen.

• The pen must be open to air: Broiler birds like breeze, even if your pen would be a blocked one, make sure it has windows so that they will have access to breeze. This prevents mortality rate and shortage.

• Give room for extra spacing: On this aspect, people do make greedy mistake, someone who built a pen for 100 birds but because of act of greediness, such person will pack 200 birds into a pen that can only contains just 100 birds. When the birds now grow bigger, there wouldn't be enough space for them to move around. Hence it becomes choked which might leads to high mortality rate which will reduce your profit outcome.

• Make sure it's covered with canopy if you are considering an open pen structure that is built with few amount of bricks and hard iron net.

There are lot of things to consider when setting up a pen for commercial purposes. When the above points are being followed, they can help prevent mortality rate that may cut down your profit.
