It's an unhidden fact that most businesses set up nowadays are after making a short term profit. What I mean is, people want a business that they will do within a short period of time and they will make the profit as soon as possible. Considering livestock farming, we have lot of businesses you can choose to do within that circle of livestock farming. Under livestock farming you have; rearing of goat, cow, local chicken, pig, Turkey and many more. While under these categories, if you are to water down your options, considering which one to choose between rearing Broiler birds and layer's birds.

Why you can opt for rearing of Broiler chicken over layer's chicken.

If I will advice which one you can choose between Broiler chicken and layers chicken if you are someone who wants a short term investment that will bring quick profit. There are some reasons why you can consider going into broiler chicken business but the important of those reasons is that its has "limited time range to reach harvest". Basically, livestock business seems to be a business of time and number. Rearing Broiler chicken can only take you just 6 weeks to 8 weeks before they can reach to harvest.

You can start harvesting from 6 weeks. That's how quick you would be able to make your gain in short term, if you can consider going into rearing Broiler birds for business. That's why you have more people rearing broiler chicken during the festive period and after that they wait till next the next festive period before they rear the next one. This is just because its brings about short term profit.

Unlike layers' birds which tends to attracts long term Investment plus long term profit. The least days that your layers can cover before they can start laying eggs is about 185 days equivalent to 6 months. Don't forget broiler birds just need 6 weeks before harvesting.

6 weeks for broiler birds? I actually thought it takes up to 4 months before they're fully ready.

Everything over 10 weeks is not feed-efficient anymore.

That's quite surprising, I use to think one needs to spend close to two months, it's one of the the things that discouraged me though Once investing on poultry back in the days. Whewww!

No oooooooo.
I start selling my broiler birds once they clock 6 weeks and before they reach 8 weeks atmost my stock is already empty. On to the batch next again. They also have life span and moreso, it's from 6 weeks to 8 weeks that you can get accurate calculated weight(Everything over 10 weeks is not feed-efficient anymore). Anything other than those periods, they will just be eating your feed and they won't add much weight. So, its doesn't pay for commercial business purpose.

Thanks for stopping by Comrade!🥂

Thanks for that accessment there, that's quite some timing. 6 to 8 weeks is equivalent to almost 2 months. So you sellout even before you hit the 9th week?

Yes
Even attimes, if my marketing goes well, sometimes before 7 weeks they will be gone. Rearing Broiler chicken to 10 weeks is a waste of time without necessary added gain.
