Caturday Life Blog

Happy Caturday, beefriends! Hope everyone is doing well today. I thought I would just write a little everyday catch up blog, which I haven't done in a while.

Yesterday, I repaired my fan that had stopped moving last year. It wasn't that old so I figured it was just clogged with cat hair and dust or something, but that wasn't it. Somehow the blades had shifted such that it was banging into the motor when it tried to spin, stopping it entirely. I had to open it completely up so the motor and blade was out of the cage part to see it, but in the end I just bent the fan blades a little - which was possible because they're aluminum and not hard plastic - and now it works fine. I have no idea how that happened, but easy fix!

I have been working on my latest God Doll for Laeg macRiangabair - aka CuChulainn's charioteer - and his black horse, the Black of Sanglain. The Black needs painting and hair still, as well as Laeg's jewelry which I also made out of clay. He has SO MUCH HAIR, lol. I broke a yarn threader working on it and had to wait for replacements to come in the mail, but they have now, so I have been sewing in more hair for him. So much hair. LOL. While I was waiting for the threaders, I made his pants and shirt. Still need to make him a tunic as well.

I am trying a new thing on a bit of a whim, since I read this post on facebook about how salt lamps really don't work (I had actually read formal articles about that before, so nothing new there), but it claimed that tourmaline does do what everyone thinks salt lamps do (release negative ions if you warm it a little). A friend who is a stone fiend said tourmaline is very fragile so you don't want to heat it too much, so I decided to take my little piece of black tourmaline and just set it on the laptop while I work (because my laptop gets really hot) to see if it gives me a boost. Can't hurt, right? :)

I got the fabric to make Dian Cecht's God Doll finally! He has darker skin than the dolls I've made so far and I couldn't find a pre-made doll form like the ones I've been using that suited him, so I'm going to try and make a copy of their form myself. By the way WHAT IS UP with the lack of brown skinned doll forms?! I mean, the odds of me finding any that matched the ones I had were slim and I accept that because they are vintage, but even just going on to Joann's website (which is where I got the fabric), when I searched for something like "cotton doll body" there were only a couple of white ones (there were some darker-skinned plastic doll forms, at least). Like. That's just wrong. Kids with darker skin need and deserve dolls that look like them too, and it's just patently unfair that it's apparently a fucking rarity to find doll forms to craft with unless you go all the way from scratch. I am filled with crafter rage for them. >:(

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I ordered new glasses so I am waiting for those in the mail, too. It will be nice to not be all out of focus doing needlework, lol.

The weather has finally warmed up - we have switched from me needing my space heater to turning on the air conditioner in a week. Ah, Denver. 😂

The super and crew are still building the community garden boxes, so I haven't moved anything outside into dirt yet. I think I may need to take the turnip sprouts and put them in a pot in the meantime, as it's been a hot minute and I was expecting outside to be ready before now, lol. Neither the very old pumpkin seeds nor the very old cantaloupe seeds sprouted anything. :( But that's ok. I'll start some tomato seeds this week (keep meaning to do that, it's getting late!) and see if any of the very old marigold seeds will sprout as well. I got those from a neighbor a couple of years ago but so far trying them for a couple of years I haven't gotten a single one to germinate so I think they were very old when she gave them to me (they were just flower heads from her garden, not a pack from the store, so no date). But worth a shot.

Also the towel is looking moldy so time to move into dirt

Anyway, that's about it from here! I hope y'all are having a good weekend. Stay safe! :)
