My Mini Garden And My Harvest Today!

In observance of the Chinese New Year, it is a national holiday in my country now through the proclamation by the President of the Philippines to give everyone ample time for the celebration. And yes, it is a long weekend which had allowed me earlier to check my mini garden.

I was so delighted to wake up early that I harvested spices just as sweet pepper, green pepper, and wild chilis. It was supposed to be a moment of planting new crops, checking, nurturing, and watering my crops but I ended up harvesting.

Spring Onions

Since I have an unused basin at home, I decided to plant the spring onions while mixing the soil with a vermicast. Instead of throwing the basin, I utilized it and I believe that spring onions would thrive there since it is one of the crops that are easy to grow.

I planted ten stalks of spring onions on the basin. The soil was healthy since I mixed it with vermicast and watered the plants after planting. Here are the tiny spring onions in which the stalks were utilized from the spice of the dish I had cooked last night.

Lemon

Lemon or the Philippine Lime is one of the plants that I love at home. I shared last time that some of the lemon trees I had at home were already bearing fruits.

And now, I am so delighted to see that the other lemon plants are now bearing flowers. I am expecting that weeks from now, it will be bearing fruits and I see that they are growing well.

Sweet Pepper

The sweet pepper has never failed to bear fruits daily. I have no problem buying spices in the market since the common spices that I use every day are already in my mini garden.

I harvested some of the fruits that I had seen. I do not let it rip on the stalk since I have noticed that some insects love it. So as long as it is already in good size, I am harvesting it.

Green Chili Pepper

I have several stalks of green chili peppers and I have been harvesting them daily too. They are of different kinds. Some fruits were big and some were small but I so loved the varieties I had at home.

How I love harvesting the fruits at this portion because of the huge harvest. I planted them at the sides of the gate.

Lemon Grass

And then I was so happy to see that the lemon grass I planted in pots was still growing well. I have been cutting the leaves and I so love its fragrance that is so relaxing.

I wanted to plant more lemon grass and I am planning to plant it on the used paint containers I have at home.

Malabar Spinach

Even though I have trimmed some portions of the Malabar Spinach, I see they are growing healthy and climbing on the pole.

It was good seeing the stalks bearing the colorful seeds and climbing in their convenient location. We call it Alugbati here in my place and I love using it in vegetable soups.

Horseradish

Aside from the Alugbati or Malabar Spinach, the horseradish or malunggay has been very useful to me in cooking vegetable soups too.

I saw the leaves and stalks were renewing. I firmly believe that this leafy vegetable is so nutritious and has a lot of health benefits based on research.

Bittergourd

My bitter gourd or ampalaya plants were growing so well. I saw how it bears many flowers and fruits. Although some of them were still young, I believe next week, I could harvest some of them.

I was laughing earlier as I saw that some of my bitter gourd plants were climbing on the gate of my neighbor. Funny how some of the stalks were invading my neighbor’s gate and I have seen young fruits too.

Water Spinach

One of my new vegetables in my mini garden is the water spinach or the Chinese kangkong. I used the stalks I bought at the market when I was cooking water spinach with oyster sauce.

Now, I am so happy that I do not need to buy at the market since I already have a plant and home. Seeing its white flowers and watching it climb made me happier.

Wild Chili Peppers

Who would never be happy seeing a variety of fruits on my wild chili peppers? I was so delighted that finally, they were bearing fruits.

The last time I shared an update about my wild chili peppers, they were still so young. How time flied so fast that I could harvest them every day. I love using wild chili peppers in dishes and even in my favorite sauce. The fresh ones are truly so fragrant. I am also using the leaves for chicken or pork soup.

What a great feeling having all these fruits, vegetables, and spices at home. And what made me happier was harvesting from the fruits of my labor. It does not matter how limited my area is for as long as I have a variety of crops so I do not need to use my penny to buy at the market every day.

Indeed, it is a fruitful day and I am thankful for the holiday today since I am off from work, and I was able to take care and harvest from my mini garden from the subdivision where I am dwelling.

I love when I plant a plant, and I see its growth process, this fills me with emotion, a few months ago I planted a soursop plant and I am waiting for it to prosper, because they are very delicate. I loved its content.
