Pogier's Brawl Report #8

Hi everyone! Pogier here with Brawl Report #8! This brawl was pretty hard in general! There were less bounties won this time around, but the highlights and other matches were just as fun! Let's get started!

Overall Guild Performance

image.png

This time around, we took 6th place with 56 wins, 67 losses, and 0 draws. For our effort, we got 26 crowns with each participating member winning 1300 merits.

Personal Progress/Goals:
My goal is to consistently be in the top contributors per guild battle. This means that victory must be obtained at all costs! Extra ferociousness and focus were set on the bounties dictated by our leader, @bp9930. For this brawl, the bounty has been set on Legendary Dragons.

Personal Brawl Results:

In this brawl, my score was 6 wins and 3 losses. Same as last time, the fray I joined was gold level! I realized that I win more when the game modes aren't Odd or Even. These kind of game modes really limit my options, so I have to tweak my strategy.

Battle Replays

Battle #1: Lose

The keys to winning a no melee with blast match are two things: Outspeed and Outlast. The first three positions should have magic reflect and return fire to hit the enemy whenever they hit you. My mistake here was thinking 2 tanks was enough. I ended up losing here because instead of a venari wavesmith, I could've brought in grenadier with the oppress ability. I may have lost this match, but I definitely learned something from here.

Battle #2: Lose

I wanted to utilize my gladius card here. Palidon Rakk isn't as strong as I hoped. My hope was to destroy my enemy before my backline was finished. I lost this the moment my Spirit of the Forest was killed. As much as possible, I should have 6 monsters at all times to help spread out the damage.

Battle #3: Lose

Another big mistake on my part. I tried to take advantage of Close Range game mode, but I should not have placed the Vigilator as my primary tank. If I could redo this, I would've placed it in the 2nd or 3rd spot and instead of using kitty, I would've brought in Selena Sky and brought in Spirit of the Forest. Once my Vigilator was killed, it was GG.

Battle #4: Win

With a little league game mode, my strategy proved to be effective. I tend to try to outspeed, and bring in armor. I used Selena Sky and ranged damage to dish out more punishment, with tanks at the front to take the hits. This was the fight that ended the losing streak!

Battle #5: Win

I decided to go for death splinter and bring in Lord of Darkness. This is a tank that has the highest win rate for me in general, and brought in my own gladius card to help. I placed the Cursed Slimeball at the back as a "bomb" that sneak damage would inflict upon themselves. I wanted to destroy the Divine Shield. My gladius card didn't do much except become a meat shield, while my Uraeus and Grenadier really put in the work as well.

Battle #6: Win

Finally! This is the first match I could finally bring in my favorite gladius card, Katrelba Gobson. This time around, I decided to place her in the second position just in case the enemy counters me hard and places a huge tank at the back that I couldn't kill. I was able to make swift work of me enemy especially since they didn't prepare enough for the earthquake game mode.

Battle #7: Win

Back to Basics and Keep Your Distance game modes meant that Magic is really strong here. Normally I'd bring in earth's range +1 here, but it was not chosen. I assumed my enemy would bring in a lot of magic, so I brought in Owster! This is literally "Why are you hitting yourself?". GG lol

Battle #8: Win

This match was all about outspeeding. Without the protection of the armor, the monsters are vulnerable to damage. This prevented the blast brought by Yodin Zaku to show its utility. I outsped them and most of their attacks even missed.

Battle #9 (THE BOUNTY): Win

This match was the bounty! At first I thought Uh-oh but as the match progressed, I knew I had won. The enemy didn't prepare for the Earthquake game mode so I knew that was my chance! Once The Kraken was destroyed, it was GG.

Guildmate's Bounty Matches

@rosa35's match!

At the first glance, it was hard to tell who would win. After watching it, all I could say was this was a pretty close match! The match was decided the moment the enemy tank was destroyed. The utility of the enemy's gladius card was removed when it was forced to be in the front line. It wasn't given enough time to kill off the enemy. It was a great call on rosa's part to bring in that type of gladius card!

@urchintrader's match!

Urchintrader completely dominated this one with the yodin team! He took first turn by taking advantage of the reverse speed game mode, and swiftly demolished his enemy! This was a complete one sided match with urchintrader coming out with no casualties on his side.

Guildmate Brawl Highlights

@lostintime's match!

This match was an obvious win from the get go. Lostintime managed to perfectly counter his opponent here. For some reason he knew to bring return fire into the match. With 4 monsters dealing ranged damage coming from the enemy, this was GG.

@urchintrader's match!

Yodin Zaku was really strong here, but it worked both in favor and against urchintrader in this fight. When the enemy gets fury, their speed increases which accounted for all of the misses on urchintrader's side. Eventually, his gladius card went to work in the end and the moment the enemy tank was healed up, the speed difference was small enough that the hits landed!

@urchintrader's match!

Another reverse speed game mode for urchintrader! Check out the Ifrit Rising in action! Dealing 6 damage every other turn, you know that when Ifrit Rising gets his turn, it's an instant delete. These were great picks by urchin and sealed the win!

Lessons Learned:

The main lesson I learned here was in a no melee fight with blast, it's best to bring in three beefy tanks with reflect magic and return fire. I can't wait to try it out for myself next time. I find my performance this time to be acceptable, but hopefully I can get a sweep next time!

Bonus: Gladius Pack Opening Time!
