My Farm Journey Diary #4: Maize and Cassava Plantations

Hello, fams, hope you are doing well.

It's been over three since I last updated my farm diary journey. In previous post and 2 days ago The Best Organic Manure to Take Your Farm to Next Level I promised share my latest progress on the farm journey.

It's been a busy journey, from challenges to fun. Presently in my country Nigeria we are facing insecurity. Clashes between herdsmen and farmers which we haven't find a reasonable and lasting solution to. Farmers are going to their farmland in fear of attack from the Fulani herdsmen, which has led to inflation of foods price.
Why I'm discussing about the insecurity in my journey is because the clash between herdsmen and farmers is the major threat to farming, which have witness beforehand in my farm some weeks ago. Few weeks ago I went to the farm around evening time to see how maize and cassava are growing, to my surprise Fulani herdsmen were about to entered my farmland with their cattle to destroy the farm, if not for my friend who happened to be a force man that confronted and warned the herders to ever graze close to the again. So many farmland have been destroyed by cattle with attacks on the farmers. We hope for better days in our country,Nigeria.(Amen).

Back to my journey, it's been over six weeks that I started this journey, lots has happened (good news).

If you can still remember, I'm doing mixed cropping (maize cassava) and now beans have joined the family.

Around mid July, rain stopped falling and maize were burning, until rain started falling since the beginning of August, there has been a dramatic growth on my farm.

The Cassava plants are also growing well. I planted the Cassava in between maize with enough spaces. Yesterday we decided to add Chicken manure compost to boost the crops growth and to improve the soil fertility. As you can see in the picture below I, my friend that we are in the business together with the laborers we hire to work on the farm. They have cleared the weeds that could affect the growth of the crops.

Bought 2 big bags of chicken compost from a poultry farm, since I could not source for enough rabbit manure.

For those that are just following my farm journey, I started the journey towards the end of June on four acres of land. 2 acres was used to plant maize, cassava and beans. Yes! White Beans was planted yesterday before adding the manure to the soil.

The other empty 2 acres is ready for plantations. Soya beans and cassava will be planted on it tomorrow.
This is the season for planting Soya beans. Plantation of maize is almost getting late.

Fams! This has been my journey so far.

Thanks for reading.. and also for following my journey.

I have always love farming and I do hope that someday i will create the time to have a farm land somewhere here in Nigeria where i can plants different kinds of food crops
Keep up the great work and remain safe.
