Lake Calaita is a small, natural alpine lake located in the Lozen Valley, at an altitude of 1600 meters. It is situated in a panoramic position, overlooking the northern part of the Pale di San Martino massif, where the Cimon della Pala stands. Additionally, the lake is entirely contained within the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Natural Park. The lake can be reached either from the Vanoi Valley or from the town of San Martino di Castrozza. From Vanoi, it is possible to drive, while from San Martino, a walk along the CAI 350 "San Martino-Calaita-Scanaiol" trail is required.

I was fortunate enough to visit Lake Calaita during the winter, when it had just snowed. The top of the lake was completely covered in snow, making it even more picturesque. It was almost impossible to see the lake under the ice, but it was still an unforgettable experience. The fresh snow and icy landscape made the lake even more characteristic and charming. Once the ice has melted, I am sure the lake will be even more beautiful, but my winter visit was truly unique. The panoramic view from the lake is spectacular, especially if you climb up to the viewpoint located about 300 meters from San Martino. From there, you can enjoy an even more breathtaking view of the surrounding area. In short, Lake Calaita is a truly beautiful place that is definitely worth seeing and exploring.

Lake Calaita is a very popular tourist destination both in the summer and winter seasons. Located in the Lozen Valley, at an altitude of 1600 meters, the lake is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, with panoramic views of the northern part of the Pale di San Martino massif. One of the most popular activities to do at Lake Calaita is a walk along the conifer forest trail, which is about 10 kilometers long and takes a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes. But this is just one of the many routes that can be taken around the lake, which is perfectly suited as a starting point for hikes of different difficulties and types. During the summer, you can go trekking or mountain biking, while in the winter you can do alpine skiing or go snowshoeing. In short, there is a wealth of choice for those who want to spend a day outdoors in this wonderful place.

But how beautiful this agriturismo is from the outside, by the way, they had set up a small nativity scene right at the entrance.

I still remember when I was at Lake Calaita, a very characteristic place. After visiting the lake, I stopped at a local, very characteristic agriturismo located in the surrounding area. It was a nice alpine hut, with a spectacular and well-kept panoramic view. The cuisine was excellent, with generous and typical Trentino dishes, and the staff was very kind and helpful. It was a truly pleasant and unforgettable experience.

Thank you for reading this post until the end. I hope you liked my photos and my story and that they gave you the opportunity to get to know Lake Calaita better. This place is really spectacular, both in summer and winter, and it is absolutely worth visiting. There is so much to do and see in this area, I guarantee you will never get bored. It is also a great opportunity to get moving and enjoy the beauty of nature. I hope that one day you can visit Lake Calaita and experience firsthand everything this place has to offer.
