Sacrifice for the Greater Good: How Two Monsters with Martyr Ability Secured the Win

avatar

Greetings to all Splinterlands players! It's time to make Social Media Challenge this is a popular event held by Splinterlands every week. I want to discuss about the battle in Splinterlands, the theme is monsters Fungus Flinger and Venari Marksrat who have Martyr ability, it's a new Soulbound reward card that I got from daily and EOS Chest. Martyr is a new ability, if the monster dies then all monster adjacent to this monster will get +1 to all stat. Fungus Flinger is from Earth Element and Venari Marksrat is a monster from Neutral Element.

This post is about new battle after the last EOS in the Modern Format Gold League, I played with a Scholar account from Balthazar. The deck used for this battle was made up of several Max Level Chaos Legion cards, some Neutral cards, old reward cards obtained from both buying them and receiving them from other Scholars. Although there are still numerous old reward cards that have not been acquired, particularly Legendary ones. Right now the old reward card has ben stop and no longer be printed, they change it to the new reward, Soulbound card.

The guide presents tactics on how to advance through the ranks by utilizing reasonably priced monsters that can still prove effective. By using the example of cards, it is clear that climbing to Champion 3 can be accomplished with a deck that doesn't require a large budget.

Ruleset

From left to right :

  • Little League, only Monsters & Summoners that cost 4 Mana or less may be used in battles.

  • Heavy Hitters, All Monsters have the Knock Out ability.
Does double damage when attacking an enemy that is stunned

  • Lost Legendaries, all monsters with rarity Legendary can't join the battle.

  • Mana Cap 25

  • Can use the element Earth

My Lineup and strategy

Based on the ruleset for this battle, there are some guidelines that we can follow:

  • In battles with low mana, it's important to focus on boosting the HP and armor of friendly monsters. To achieve this, it would be beneficial to have a monster or summoner that can provide such enhancements to all friendly creatures. On the other hand, it would also be helpful to bring a monster or summoner that can decrease the HP or armor of all enemy monsters.

  • Try to bring at least a monster with 2 damage.

  • Since we do not have any monsters that can stun the enemy, we should not worry too much about the Heavy Hitters ruleset.

This battle only involves one element and we only have Obsidian summoner, we will use it. Although we do not have a monster or summoner that can increase HP or armor, we do have a monster with the Martyr ability, which can increase the damage, HP, and speed of the monster adjacent to it.

Earth monsters are known for their powerful magic attacks, and I believe the enemy has already anticipated the use of monsters with magic attacks. Therefore, I will not use any magic attacks in this battle.

The monster lineup that we will use is as follows:

The summoner

Obsidian can increase magic damage by 1. I only have this summoner on Earth so I used it.

Fungus Flinger, First position - Tanker and Martyr Sacrifice

This monster is being used because it has Martyr ability. In this position, it cannot attack because it has a ranged attack type. The goal is for it to die quickly and activate the Martyr ability, which will increase all stats of the monsters behind it. At level 1, with a Speed of only 1, 3 HP, and no armor, it will easily die in the first position

From the table above, we can see that at level 2 and beyond, there is an increase in HP and Speed. However, I think this is not ideal for this particular monster, as it is being used only for its Martyr effect. The higher the HP and Speed, the longer it will take to die, delaying the activation of the Martyr effect.

At the maximum level, we can see that there are additional skills such as Blind and Affliction, which are quite interesting. Using this monster at the maximum level in battles with low mana may be useful. However, further testing is needed to determine whether it is better to level up the monster or to leave it at level 1.

Xenith Monk, Second position - Attacker and Tanker

The Xenith Monk is a monster that will be upgraded using the Martyr ability from the Fungus Flinger monster. It has Void abilities that are very useful in battles against Earth monsters, as it can reduce magic damage by half. Additionally, it has a Heal skill that can restore its HP every round by 1/3 of its maximum HP, rounded down.

Uraeus, third position - Attacker

A monster with the Sneak ability can inflict poison on enemy monsters, which is a deadly ability in Little League since many monsters have only a small amount of HP.

Xenith Archer, fourth position - Attacker

This monster is placed in this position because it is a ranged type and needs to be positioned as far as possible from the first position in order to continue attacking. It has a mana cost of 2 and a damage of 2, making it suitable for use in Little League to assist the Xenith Monk in attacking the monster in the first position.

This monster is easy to defeat when attacked, so it must be placed in a safe location protected from attacks from both the front and the back.

Venari Scout, fifth position - Attacker and Tanker

This monster has the Dodge ability that will increase the chance of evading melee and range attacks by 25%, with a decent speed of 4. It will also receive a stat boost from a monster with the Martyr ability. With the addition of the Martyr ability combined with the Dodge ability and high speed, we hope that this monster can evade some enemy attacks, especially if the enemy uses a monster with the Sneak ability.

Venari Marksrat- Tanker and Martyr Sacrifice

This is the second monster with Martyr ability that we bring, in my opinion, this one is better than Fungus Flinger because at level 1 it only has 2 HP compared to Fungus Flinger which has 3 HP. Dying faster means that the monsters adjacent to it will get a stat boost more quickly.

This monster has very useful abilities at the maximum level, namely Snare and Shatter.

  • Snare, when attacking enemies with Flying, removes the Flying ability and cannot miss. This will be very useful in the Earthquake ruleset, as monsters will lose their flying ability and be affected by the Earthquake.
  • Shatter, causes the enemy's armor to be completely destroyed in one attack. It is also very helpful in the Earthquake ruleset.

Although it needs to be considered whether to level up, my temporary strategy is to keep it at level 1 until there are enough cards to reach the maximum level, then reconsider the possibility of leveling it up.

The Battle

Round 1:
As usual, the battle starts with buffs and debuffs from both sides. The attack begins with the enemy Uraeus attacking our Venari Marksrat and killing it. With the death of this monster, its martyr ability is activated, providing a 1-point increase in HP, Speed, and HP to our Venari Scout.

Our Venari Scout becomes the fastest monster in this battle and immediately attacks the Venari Spellsmith, killing it. Our Uraeus attacks the Xenith Archer and inflicts a poison effect.

The enemy Venari Scout attacks our Fungus Flinger and kills it. With the death of the Fungus Flinger, the Martyr ability provides a 1-point increase in stats (Attack, Speed, and HP) to the Xenith Monk.

Round 2 :
The round starts with the activation of poison effect on Xenith Archer and it dies. Now there are 4 Vs 4 monsters left.

Our Venari Scout kills Xenith Monk.
Although it has received a speed boost from Martyr ability and also has a dodge skill, our Venari Scout cannot avoid attacks from Uraeus and gets poisoned. The same goes for Xenith Monk, which cannot dodge the Hill Giant's attack and gets stunned, causing it to be unable to attack in round 3 or the following rounds.

Round 3 :
Our Venari Scout, who was affected by the poison effect, lost 2 HP this round and once again could not avoid the attack from Uraeus, resulting in its death this round.

Our Uraeus killed the enemy's Uraeus this round, and in this round, our Xenith Monk was not affected again by the stun effect from Hill Giant, in the next round can attack again.

Round 4 :
Our Uraeus was killed by Venari Scout. The enemy Hill Giant was killed by Xenith Archer.

The battle becomes 2 vs 1. It's already been determined that this situation is in our favor. Xenith Monk, with its healing ability, cannot be killed when attacked by Venari Scout.

Round 5-8 :
Let's skip directly to round 8 because the battle was taking too long. Venari Scout managed to dodge attacks and survived until this round, but in this round it finally died after being attacked by Xenith Monk. The victory is ours.

Did your strategy work?

Overall, this strategy seems to be working well, but perhaps luck is not on our side. We have noticed that the enemy Venari Scout is able to dodge many of our monster's attacks, even though our monsters have higher speed. However, our own Venari Scout, which has a higher speed, is not able to evade any attacks from the Uraeus, despite its lower speed.

When a Xenith monk receives a stat boost, it becomes significantly more powerful. They can heal more, have more speed, and deliver stronger attacks, making them dangerous monsters in the little league.

We have found that the Martyr ability is particularly useful in lower mana or lower league battles. Further testing is needed in battles involving Earthquake and Poison rulesets to fully assess the advantage of using monsters with the Martyr ability.

Some other Battle using Martyr ability :

  • This battle use another effective strategy we have found is to use the Resurrect skill in combination with the Martyr ability and Enrage. This combination provides a significant boost in damage output, making it a very powerful tactic :

  • In this battle It was a difficult situation when the enemy used two monsters with the Martyr ability to increase the stats of their Quora, which was already a tough monster to deal with from the beginning, this is my main account, battle in Brawl.
