Sublime Sunday With Some Feathered Friends Returning...
We are finally getting some milder weather and seeing signs of Spring!
I took advantage of these lovely days to capture some of the last icy scenes before the melt begins.
I had discovered the creative effects feature on my camera that turns some rather plain images into something more dramatic. It will take a series of pictures and applies different filters to the photos. The above was one taken using that feature.
Here is some more images of the display of icicles with different effects...
Those were a wonderful display of icicles forming on a layer of snow that was sliding off the studio roof. On the East side of the house was another display of icicles.
I used that same feature on some forest scenes with different display of trees.
As you see in the above scene the roads are now free of snow since they had been plowed and once a dark patch appears it soaks in the heat and the melt begins to speed up.
Another sign of Spring that I am very excited about is the return of the geese! I first heard the honking of a goose just when my husband had remarked that the daytime temperatures were having a hard time rising and Spring was so late in coming. That night had been quite cold and every thing was still covered with snow. I felt for that poor goose and wondered what he would eat. It was a lone goose but it wasn't long before more pairs of geese were showing up and flocks started coming in.
I went down to where I often seen the geese in the summertime upon a pond that was formed in the middle of my neighbors field. I was in luck! The geese were coming in and landing on the frozen snow covered pond plus I found out what they were eating. My neighbor had been feeding his cows, that had young calves, bales of oat straw so the geese must have been helping themselves to the oat seeds.
It was a beautiful scene to see these large birds with their huge wing span landing on the snow where there markings where showed off so clearly!
There were a few pairs that stayed together. It seemed to be that the one pair were courting and others visiting their old nesting spots.
I seen some pairs of geese by another pond and it was funny to see them with the female sitting on there usual nesting spot (very snowy) and the male standing by in the snow. Hopefully with the milder weather the thaw will happen quicker - it will make everyone happy!
This is my amazing Nature Contest entry. See details here
It is also my entry for the Photo52 Challenge Week #16 with a theme of "Spring is in the Air" Details here
The photo of the 3 geese landing on the snow with their wings spread open is my entry photo.
All photos were taken with my Canon Powershot SX60 HS
Great snowy enviroment. It seems like a little bit of a pity thta this is going to melt away. .. Those icicles are really long ! .. never seen those huge ones before ^^
Yes we've had some spectacular icicle displays! It's all with the way the snow on the roof melts and the contrasting warm days and cold nights. I am so ready for it to melt then I can get on to taking photos of all the wild flowers around here - another amazing display!
Love the geese ones! Lovely that spring is coming your way. :))
Spring and warmer days ahead! Great icycle photos, and I am so glad to begin to see the birds returning! Great shots of the geese! !Tip

Beautiful pictures. I haven’t lived through a proper winter in 10 years. I don’t know if I could survive one anymore.
What neat photo effects! And some really awesome pictures of the geese. They definitely do seem like quite the majestic creatures!
nice captures. up!
Oh my gosh Porters, I did not know you were married. What a wonderful array of subjects and angles you have there!
I particularly like the shine on the first icicle. Neat to think that your camera applies filters directly. how fun!
I get sensory overload with posts of many pictures but this one is so zen, I wish it was longer!
Oh your feathered friends arriving, love the landing as they come in, good photography captures.
Ice sculptures from every possible branch and roof top make such an unusual show, magic at the end of winter.
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing your wonderful entry again, even though I am late!
Hey! I enjoy having your comments! So happy you popped on over even if it was late!
