Monomad: Ferrari SF90 Stradale (Hot Wheels)

The box of these at home is not really mine. My son is the one obsessed with cars, and the collection has been growing faster than I can keep track of. So I started doing this: pick one up, turn it over, read the base, and find out what it actually is. Turns out this first one is more interesting than I gave it credit for.

Something I only learned recently: the year on the base is when the tooling was made, not when your car was made. So a car you bought last week can say 2008 down there. Here it happens to say 2025 and the casting really is that new, so for once the two line up.
The other thing I noticed is "Made in Indonesia". Almost every listing I found online for this reference shows Malaysia. I assume Mattel just runs the same casting in more than one plant, but I could not find anything confirming that, so take it as a guess.
The real car
Ferrari built the SF90 Stradale from 2019 to 2024. Flavio Manzoni's team at Centro Stile did the design, and the name comes from Scuderia Ferrari's 90th anniversary.
It is a mid-engined hybrid. The 4.0 twin-turbo V8 works alongside three electric motors and the combined output lands somewhere around 1000 hp, through an eight-speed dual clutch.
My favourite detail is the rear wing, which is split in two and borrows a moving element from Formula One aerodynamics. Ferrari retired the car in 2026 and replaced it with the 849 Testarossa.
What survived the shrinking, and what did not
The roofline is good. You can hold it at arm's length and know what it is without reading the base, which is not always true of mainlines. The rear ended up better than I expected too, with a diffuser and outlets actually moulded in rather than just painted on.
The wing is there, which honestly surprised me. It is moulded straight into the bodywork as one solid piece, so the two-part split of the real car is gone, but the shape and the stance of it are right. At this size I was not expecting it to survive at all. The wheels are the usual generic five-spokes.

A caixa destes lá em casa não é bem minha. O meu filho é que é doido por carros, e a coleção tem crescido mais depressa do que eu consigo acompanhar. Comecei então a fazer isto: pegar num, virá-lo ao contrário, ler a base, e perceber o que é aquilo afinal. Este primeiro tem mais história do que eu julgava.

Uma coisa que só percebi há pouco tempo: o ano gravado na base é o ano do molde, não o ano em que aquele carro foi feito. Um carrinho comprado a semana passada pode ter lá 2008. Aqui calha ser 2025 e o casting é mesmo desse ano, portanto pela primeira vez as duas coisas batem certo.
O outro pormenor foi o "Made in Indonesia". Quase tudo o que encontrei online desta referência aparece como Malásia. Presumo que a Mattel produza o mesmo molde em mais do que uma fábrica, mas não encontrei nada que confirmasse, por isso fica como palpite.
O carro real
A Ferrari produziu o SF90 Stradale de 2019 a 2024. O desenho é da equipa do Flavio Manzoni no Centro Stile, e o nome vem dos 90 anos da Scuderia Ferrari.
É um híbrido de motor central. O V8 4.0 biturbo trabalha com três motores elétricos e o total anda à volta dos 1000 cavalos, com caixa de dupla embraiagem de oito relações.
O pormenor de que mais gosto é a asa traseira, dividida em duas partes, com um elemento móvel herdado da aerodinâmica da Fórmula 1. A Ferrari reformou o carro em 2026 e pôs no lugar dele o 849 Testarossa.
O que sobreviveu à redução, e o que não
A linha do tejadilho está bem. Consegues segurá-lo com o braço esticado e perceber o que é sem ler a base, o que nem sempre acontece nos mainline. A traseira também ficou melhor do que eu esperava, com difusor e saídas mesmo moldadas em vez de só pintadas.
A asa está lá, o que sinceramente me surpreendeu. Vem moldada de uma peça só com a carroçaria, portanto perde-se a divisão em duas partes do carro real, mas a forma e a posição estão certas. A este tamanho não estava à espera que sobrevivesse de todo. As jantes são as habituais de cinco raios genéricas.
O próximo é ele que escolhe, não sou eu.
