Quiet city, Vila do Conde gained importance and prosperity as a shipbuilding shipyard at the time of the Discoveries.

Vila do Conde is one of the oldest terms in northern Portugal. Its origins go beyond the foundation of Portuguese territory, dating back to 953, the first written document that refers to Villa de Comite, in a letter of sale of goods.

Currently, Vila do Conde seeks to maintain the dynamics of a city directed towards the future and, for example, these are the last interventions that have been taking place in the main points of the city.

Located on the north bank of the mouth of the Ave river, Vila do Conde is an important industrial center, fishing port and bathing and tourist area, configuring one of the main and most sought after bathing centers in the country. The city is part of the same urban agglomeration as Póvoa de Varzim.
