Ah, yes oh yes this post of yours makes me want to get back into BattleTech. I used to love my old Mechwarrior: Mercenaries game back in the day (actually, how long ago was that now? Decades?)

Playing the story campaign was great fun BUT for me the real pleasure is in the roguelike experience of raising my Merc flag and heading out into the black looking for contracts - love it!

Excellent salvage there, and Ifeel your pain now that you have so much potential... but nowhere near enough C-bills. That right there is the essence of the tension in the roguelike merc lance 'story'.

Dang it I think I'm going to have to dust off my install of BattleTech and get back into the swing of things so that I won't get my ass handed to me when I'm running my merc lance.

So it's called RogueTech is it, this mod? Righto, I'm off to check it out. Thanks!

The install is much friendlier these days... but the underlying BattleTech engine is still a bit sluggy. Sometimes, the RogueTech install gets a false flag from antivirus as it needs to do a .dll injection.

Yes... there is nothing more frustrating than getting a new chassis... but no money to kit it out! I did a rough tallying of how much it would cost to get a single one of those 70 ton Mechs into service... on the order of 4 million C-Bills... so around 3 months of running costs! Eeep....
