Bow Hunting is not so bad afterall | theHunter: Call of the Wild

avatar

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

theHunter: Call of the Wild does have a steep learning curve but after the initial hurdle your life becomes a lot easier, you get a good command of how the game works, and with kills, you get cash and XP which can be used to unlock and learn more skills. All this makes it a fun experience. I still remember my first kill, it took me like 2 hours of playing and chasing after animals but after you unlock powerful scopes and weapons it gets much easier.

But it only becomes easy to kill with Rifles and the long-range shots are much easier with better scopes but to hunt with Bow is a completely different game. With each weapon type, you need to achieve a certain amount of kills and weapon scores before you can unlock say a magnification scope. Until you do that you have to rely on your patience and the ability to call in animals with callers.

I wanted to improve my Bow score and also wanted to learn to hunt with Bow which I have not done enough. Recently I bought a weapon pack that contained a new bow so I wanted to try that as well.

I bought the CB-65 Compound bow from the in-game store which was free as it was a DLC item. I thought of using the simple curve bow as well but that one didn't have any scope and I will try it later. Another reason is this bow can be used with a wide variety of animals as it can be fitted with 3 different types of arrows which is effective for almost all the classes.

I bought all 3 types of arrows and placed them in my loadout. I bought a scope for the bow as well but had no magnification on it.

It was nighttime in the Cautro Colinas Game Reserve so I rested and skipped the night. No way I was hunting in the dark with a bow. xD

A lovely morning welcomed me with a clear blue sky, the sun was shining brightly and it was perfect weather for hunting. I was close to the middle of the reserve where we have all the different plantations. Look at my dog, Sheru, posing in front of a sunflower field. We both were ready to get some kills.

I heard a warning call from Roe Deer. It was coming from the other side of the field so I went inside the field but that was not a bright idea. You cannot see much from there. While I was crouching down and walking to make sure not to spook any deer, he still heard me and fled from there.

Another thing I noticed is I can't shoot while laying down. This is the position which makes the minimum amount of noise and I can get close to animals crawling on my belly but unlike other weapons, I couldn't shoot from this position with the bow, which is a led down of course.

I saw a small "Roe deer" eating at a distance. I had a Roe deer caller with me which can be used to call them and it has a chance to attract the deer. This got interesting right after listening to my calls and came closer trying to investigate the source of those calls.

I took a shot but missed it, I did not compensate my shot with the distance and it flew past him. But the best part of using Bows is they are very silent and don't make much noise.

I saw another one coming towards me. This time it was a small female. I had no idea where she came from but she was way too close and I took the shot. That was a much easier shot.

The arrow easily penetrated both of her lungs and she instantly collapsed to the ground. A perfect shot was taken from a very close distance. I think this is the tactic with a bow. You need to get closer before you take the shot.

Just on the north of that beautiful Sunflower field was an empty field. A couple of Roe deer were calmly eating the dried-up grass there. I tried the same tactics and used the callers. At first, they were not interested so I got closer and tried again.

After a few more calls they seemed to be coming in my direction. Roe deer do not have the best visual senses in the game if you crouch down or lay low they will get super close to you easily. So, I waited for them to come close.

They took their sweet time, but I was patient enough. You can't be a good hunter if you are impatient in this game and in real life too. Wind direction was not an issue either but I still put on some scent eliminator spray.

After a long wait, they got close, and I took the shot. I only had time to take down one of them. I was out in the open and had to take the shot quickly. Like always, I aimed at the lungs but missed it by a few inches and hit the vertebrae which was a bit unlucky. It was not a vital shot so I missed out on some of the rewards too.

This place seemed like a big hotspot for deer as I saw another one approaching me. He might have also come to investigate the source of that call I used earlier. I was more than ready for him. I waited for him to get even closer. If I were using guns there was no chance I was seeing this many animals. The silent kills of Bows seem to be a very good advantage and might be the only thing that keeps players interested in using them.

I like the scope on this bow, a small red dot in the centre with a wide diameter that allows for a good look at the animals is nice. You can keep an eye on other animals and can easily switch to others just in case.

And with a quick arrow to the chest, he died a peaceful death. Soon, I was able to take down another one!

You can see where the arrow hit them, this above one was a double long shot as well which also touched the vertebrae as well. A big splatter of blood and instant death, no more tracking them down.

I am loving the piercing strength of this bow. Looks like it was made well to kill these small deer. Almost every time every arrow completely penetrates the animal and gives a vital hit. This hunting session with the bow was going much better than I expected.

How about some Pheasants?

Moving forward, I saw a flock of Ring-Necked Pheasant, they were eating right in the middle of the field. All of them were males only.

I tried to get closer but they seemed to have much better senses and were nervous and knew my presence. No way, I was getting close enough to use my bow and they are very small targets to be shot with an arrow from a distance. So, I used mine.22 LR rifles which are more than capable of taking those down. That gun has very low recoil so I can take multiple shots in case I miss the first one.

I killed two of them, sadly they were only level 1 females and gave me no trophy. The second one I killed was about to fly up and I got her at the right time.

First 'Gold' European Hare

Not just Deer and Pheasants, I got another type of animal, the European Hare. While I was moving through a grassy patch of area, a less cultivated part of the map, I saw a few European Hare, which can be found on many maps. But I have not hunted them enough.

Getting them with the bow is a challenge though, I don't have a caller to call them in, unlike the Roe deer. So, I have to get close by walking towards them and walking makes some noise and it is not as easy to get them with bow and arrow because of their small size. So, I decided to use the rifle again.

I was able to kill 3 of these guys, one of them was a relatively big class 2 female which gave me a Gold trophy. I think this is my first golden hare. I need to hunt them more and find a diamond soon. Diamonds are so rare in the game. Out of all the animals I killed so far, must be in the hundreds, I only got 3 diamonds so far.

I saw another outpost which was a relief as I had come a long way. This will be a nice place, close to a lake as well. Which I will check out another time. I walked right towards that and unlocked the outpost which will be used as a quick travel location on this vast open-world reserve. I still have a lot of outposts and watchtowers to unlock in this reserve.

This is the end of my hunting session. I killed a bunch of Deer with my bow and I had a much better time than the last time I tried to use a bow which was a disaster. Part of the reason is the ability to call in animals using callers. I will buy more callers for different animals and try to hunt more often with Bow and arrow.

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...

I can imagine the bow and general physics of shooting is pretty good in a game like this that's focused on it.

I thought the same thing too, it must be really good, you really immerse yourself in the role of the hunter.

Yes, they had to do it to make it as realistic as they could.

God that good graphics, in the image where the dog is on the field, if you do not detail it well you can even say that it is a real image and not a game haha.

A while ago I had a game like this on my phone, but it was not like this, plus the design that has the expensive I like, and its hunting mechanics makes it great. !LUV
