Hunting in Silver Ridge Peaks | theHunter: Call of the Wild

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

I have been playing single-player campaign mode for some time and hunting alone is fun but hunting with others can be twice as fun. So, I decided to host another multiplayer map and chose my favourite map, the Silver Ridge peaks as it is one of the most beautiful reserves in the game with enough animal population to satisfy all the hunters.

I started the map with the default settings and looked at the list of challenges to put up. I decided to go for the "Herd Challenge", you must harvest two animals from the same herd to complete this challenge. Not too difficult but it is still a challenge as if you kill one the others will get spooked and you may never see them again. So, you must be quick and take a shot on a running one which is significantly harder.

Soon after I hosted the map, I found a small herd of Pronghorns. Looking at their weights and trophy ranges they were good candidates for the gold trophy.

I took a shot at one and it died almost instantly. Now all the other ran to the open fields and it was easier for me to take a few more shots.

The first one was gold and gave me a lot of cash and XP. The other two I took shots also died; my dog followed their blood trails and we found them.

This smaller female gave me no trophy score as I failed to do the harvest check. I didn't hit a vital organ. My bullet went through its vertebrae and is not considered a vital organ in the game. Some of the vital organs are the heart, lungs, neck bone, brain and liver.

This marked the completion of the challenge and I did it rather quickly. Only 4 other players joined this far with my map and it had a capacity of 8. But after this challenge. More people joined in and it was fun.

So, I started a new challenge. This time to complete the challenge players have to hit the heart of the animal which is not an easy task. Heart shots take much practice and only an experienced hunter knows the anatomy of all animals perfectly and can hit a heart shot. I have made a few in the past but my main targets are lungs so I never actually learned to figure out where the heart rests.

Anyways, I thought it would be easy to get a heart shot on a bigger animal so, I went to the southeastern part of the map. You will find massive Bison here.

I quick-travelled to the outpost. And started searching for a herd of Bisons. My search ended quickly as I saw a big herd of Bisons grazing in the open grasslands.

But they somehow sensed my presence and got spooked. They were running now, I had to take shots with not a great angle but I took town few of those. It was a rather big herd of 10 or so. And they ran one after the another, so it was easier.

None of those was heart shots. Every shot was a lung shot. They have a much lower heart position than I expected. Also, their thick fat makes it harder to penetrate the flesh so we can't shoot from the front side.

As I was looking for more animals to hunt, I saw a herd of Pronghorn travelling. They move very fast and I couldn't catch up to them at my running speed. So, I didn't go after them.

Suddenly my game crashed and I had to restart it. These random game crashes happen occasionally to me. I think my toaster pc giving up on them.

Anyways, I started the single campaign this time. It is more peaceful and relaxing for me. It was going to be dark soon so I slept and set my waking time to 7:30 am. I woke up to another beautiful morning in the mountains. Wish I was there IRL...lol

I wanted to explore the northern mountains so I quick-travelled to one of the closest outposts and went north.

On my way, I saw a lookout point, you could see the entire valley from this point. When you unlock a lookout point, a few markers appear on your map with key locations. I could see an outpost nearby. So, I decided to go there.

But it was not that easy, why would anything be easy for me? I tried to take a shortcut and fell to my death. But I tried again. No idea why I did it again and to no one surprise I was dead the second time...haha.

What a pathetic way to die in this game, by fall damage. I learnt my lesson and took a long way and followed the path after looking at the map. It took a lot longer because of my stupid shortcut idea.

At last, I reached the outpost and now I have another fast travel location on the map. This outpost was in the middle of a thick forest.

I forgot to tell you that I spotted a beautiful mountain goat. I snuck up slowly and shot it with my powerful 7mm emperor magnum rifle.

This was an instant kill as the bullet went through both the lungs just missing the heart with an inch. I should keep in mind that the heart position is much lower than my mind wants me to believe. Anyways, it was a smaller female and they do have horns as well. Horns are more often found only in males. But this specie has horns on females as well. Part of the reason I play this game is to get more knowledge about these beautiful creatures.

This last hunt marked the end of my long hunting session. I enjoyed the game, it is very relaxing and made me want to know more about these different animals and their natural habitats. The game does a good job of mimicking the animal's behaviours and the graphics are exceptional as well.

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...

There are video games that do not require a lot of action to be great, I once got to play a fishing game that was very relaxing and fun, especially with the audio that it had, it immersed me in this world and I did not realize that the hours passed very quickly.

I had a similar fishing game that was so relaxing and fun. The same type of attraction I get from this hunting simulation.
