Learning to Hunt with a Bow in Hirschfelden | theHunter: Call of the Wild

avatar

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

We are back in Europe and exploring the Hirschfeldan reserve. This is the most beautiful reserve for me in this game but it has a lot of dense deciduous forest which makes it a bit difficult to hunt here.

I like to hunt anything and everything which comes my way while some players only go for one species at a time. I wander around listening for animal calls and looking out for tracks and then hunt whatever I can track. But today, I wanted to do some side missions as well.

Mr Bhandari is a biologist who is researching about Bisons and reintroducing them here in this reserve. His project is not easy and he needs as much help as he can get so I help him from time to time.

One of the missions I got was to hunt down a Bison using a Bow. This is going to be difficult as I have never used Bow in the game before, I have only used Rifles and Shotguns to hunt so far. Well, it is time I learn to use a Bow. They make much less noise, but I have to get closer to the animals.

But first, I had to buy a bow, there were a couple of free bows which were very basic so I skipped them and decide to buy the BEARCLAW LITE CB-60, which is suitable for small and medium-sized games only. The HAWK EDGE CB-70 is locked and I need Bow score to unlock it.

I am trying to take down a mighty European Bison with this bow, it is going to be interesting xD

I was wandering aimlessly looking for Bisons and found a Hunting structure which I unlocked and now I had a much better hunting spot. I couldn't find any game after waiting for some time from this location.

I came down and started looking around. I saw a Big lake close by and started going there. Surely there will be a few animals drinking water at this time of the day, I thought.

I was right and saw a Bison. This was half a ton beast and taking it down with just arrows is always going to be hard.

I had to get closer but the wind was not in my favour and it got my scent and started to flee. I had to run after it for a while and throughout that time I was constantly shooting my arrows. Only a few connected and most of them would miss. I need to practice more, the arrows drop-down way faster than a bullet and I am lacking the skill to take down targets from a distance.

After a lot of struggle and wasting many arrows, I was getting better and finally, one of the arrows pierced the left lung and it dropped dead after some time.

It took 4 arrows in total and 1 km of tracking and constantly barraging it with arrows. I need a lot more practice and a better Bow. To unlock the better bow I have to hunt a lot of animals with this Bow first. I don't know how I am going to do that, certainly not by hunting Bisons...haha.

It was no surprise that I failed 3 out of 4 harvest checks on this animal. At least I got some XP and cash. Also, this completed the mission to hunt Bison with Bow and arrows.

I was exploring and found a cool Windmill. This was built in 1980 and there were a few more but in the wildfire, they were burnt and only this is now standing here.

I forgot to check my Skill and Perk point. I had 1 each and decided to upgrade "Locate Tracks" to level 3 which will help me to track animals from farther away.

I equipped my bow and started looking for deer. There are three species of deer here in this reserve; Roe deer, Red deer and Fallow deer. The smallest of them is the Roe deer and they would be the perfect candidate for my hunting session with Bow.

I was searching for them and even had a Roe deer caller which can call deer from 150-200 meters away.

I sat under a tree branch and the indicator showed that I was well hidden. So, I waited while using the Roe deer caller and after around 5 mins one deer came investigating the calls and I took my time and patiently got a nice shot.

This was a perfect plan for my bow, I still have to do a lot of kills using it but this was a nice start after the mess with Bison.

I waited for another one but this time I was unlucky. The sun was going down so I decided to call it a day. It was a peaceful end to a chaotic day. I will try to use Bow a lot more from now.

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...

Great! This video game not only focuses on the hunting aspect, but it also has a system of Perks and Skill points that transforms it into a kind of Hunting RPG or at least that's what it seems to me xD. Anyway, it is definitely an excellent thematic idea for a video game.

By the way, I loved how you narrated that tough battle against the European Bison hehe and how complicated it can be to use the bow for an archery novice :D . If it was difficult with that bow that you bought, I can't imagine how difficult it would have been with the more basic bows :O

Excelent post, bro, thanks for bring new and originals videogames titles to this amazing gaming community on Hive.

Cheers, mate.

Yes, this game has a nice skill tree and perks which unlocks things like the hunter making less noise when walking or less aim wobble when using a weapon or unlocking other powerful weapons. You can also play in different regions/maps which are based on real life locations and animals AI is not that bad either.

These Bison are the real tank in this game. Even my powerful rifle takes a couple of shots to take them down and imagine doing it with something like a basic bow. That can only take down small games like rabbits or turkeys or small deer species.

Thanks for stopping by, have a blessed day.

Hunting with an arrow must be much more difficult than usual. Considering there are no hunters who hunt this way today. That man probably asked you to kill the animal with an arrow because he didn't want to damage the animal's internal organs too much. I can't think of any other reason. By the way, going to the water's edge to hunt was a good idea, man. Every creature is vulnerable when drinking water. Although, when you say it like that, it sounds cruel.
