NFS Most Wanted (2005) Challenger Series: Did someone call a Cab?

Hello gamers, I hope you are doing well.

Need for Speed is one of the best racing franchises I played in my childhood. I spend so much time on titles like NFS Carbon, Underground and my favourite Most Wanted. Let's take a nostalgic trip and talk more about the game.

I have a cool challenger series mission to show you as well. There are so many cars in the games and most of them can be bought or won by challenging and beating Rivals in the Most Wanted list. But some vehicles cannot be bought just like the taxi that you can only drive if you unlock the Challenger series mission.

The challenge description says:

Someone's broken down near a tollbooth, and they need a cab urgently. A rival cab driver is also on their way to pick them up. If you don't reach the passenger in less than 4:30 the other cab will get there first.

I was so surprised when I first played this... I wasn't expecting this taxi for sure. The number of times I have destroyed these taxis while driving with my cars is uncountable and to play now with taxi and do the same thing to the other cars was a great feeling.

The Challenger series is an underrated part of this game. I had a lot of fun completing each mission. They start with easy challenges and get harder and harder. One of the last challenges on the list is a "Tollbooth Time Trail event" where we are not racing against other racers but against time! This mission was the same kind of mission and we had to complete it under 4:30.

It wasn't as easy as thought it would be. Maybe because I was playing it after some time and my fingers were not adjusted yet.

Anyway, here is the video of me attempting to complete it.

Rundown of the Race!

There are only 4 tollbooth or checkpoints in this race and failing to reach any of them under the assigned time will end the race right there but if you do it under that time, the leftover time will be added to your race as a bonus for the next checkpoint.

Having only 4 checkpoints in this one means they are going to be spread further apart. The first one was the longest and I got more than 2 mins to reach the first tool booth.

There are multiple ways these types of races can be challenging first is if the time is not that much or they give you a car with less acceleration and this taxi doesn't have the best acceleration. Plus each race has a traffic situation going on, if the traffic is heavy these types of races become very tough. In this particular race event, I would say it was moderate to heavy traffic which made it difficult. With every collision, you have to burn more of your boost and lose some precious time on the clock.

Another way of making the races difficult is having police chase you during the race. They are not too much trouble as they mostly follow you from behind but they are a constant nuisance for sure.

The traffic was so bad at the end of the race that I almost lost it at the end. My car came to a complete stop and that was enough for me to almost lose it. Fortunately, I had gained +12 seconds in the last tool booth and that buffer helped me get over the line. Even though it was very close.

When that final countdown comes on your screen you will get a slight panic attack and all you could hope for is to cross the line in time. 0.87 seconds wasn't that low too, I have finished such races as low as 0.02 seconds...lol

Another interesting thing is there are some shortcuts which can be found in places. These shortcuts save some time but can be risky too and if you mess it up you might have to restart your race.

Shortest Sprint Race

I played another race too, this time a proper campaign race from Blacklist #15. It is one of the shortest sprint races in the whole game and one of the easiest too. It was a quick one and I recorded and uploaded it on my YouTube as well.

This was unfair to the game as I was using one of the best vehicles for one of the easiest races. I just wanted to see how quickly I can finish this one. But those cops decided to ruin it too.

I loved these quick races and it just teleports back to my childhood memories, playing this game with my brother and taking turns to beat all the races. I heard it is coming back as a remake or something, let's see if those rumours are correct but until then I will continue to enjoy this timeless masterpiece.

Let me know if you played this one and if you have some precious memories to share.

Thanks for reading...

Wow that cab mission was very interesting, I didn't know there was such a mission in the game. In the end I never finished the whole game, but it's fascinating to see a challenging mission like that.

Yeah, not many people have completed the challenger series which is outside of the main campaign of this game. This is one of the only games that I completed 100%

For me it is a classic of the game. I played it a lot when I was a kid and it was a good way of entertainment because it was the only game I had installed on the PC, it was fun to be chased by the police XD
But, I was amazed with the cab, ever cab, or I don't know, I don't remember anymore. But you brought me good moments.

It is so fun to play with the police. They try their best to catch us but our car is so strong and feels so powerful. Love it!

This cab mission is a unique challenge in the challenger series. Not many played it, I guess.
