Retro Roam: Talking about Retro Games | Some of the most influential Arcade games!
Hello gamers, I hope you are doing well.
Welcome to a new gaming series on Hive, Retro Roam. In this series, I will be sharing my experience of playing old games starting from the late 1970s up to the 2000s. I was fortunate enough to play a few of them here and there but there are so many good old games and entire series that I missed. It will be a nostalgic series for a lot of us.
I will most of the early home consoles in the First-Generation as they were just Pong games and their variations.
A good start to the series will be from the Atari 2600 console. This was a game changer in the home console gaming industry as it came with separate cartridges with games, not like the previous consoles with just one or few games built with the consoles.
Space Invaders
Space Invaders is easily one of the most influential games in the industry. You have to shoot the waves of incoming aliens with your spaceship as they get closer and gain more speed. It is highly addictive and challenging at the same time. I can see myself playing it for hours trying to beat the levels as they become progressively harder.

It is quite simple but the slow bullet/laser speed and oscillating movements of all the aliens and dodging their attacks all with a rush to stop them before it's too late make it an interesting one.
The minimalist sound design and graphics are just 160 x 190 moving coloured pixels on your screen. But it was all the craze back in 1978! There are so many spin-offs and games with the same theme that came out after the overwhelming success of this one.
I would have played a lot more and tried to grind but I had more games to play.
Atlantis
The next game I played was Atlantis, this was released in 1982 for the Atari 2600. In this one, we have three fixed cannons shooting at the attacking ships. We have to defend the city by controlling three mounted cannons, the middle one shoots at the top only and the other two placed on the edge of the city shoots diagonally in the sky. There will be some occasional ships with lasers that try to destroy all the structures along with the middle cannon.

Ms. Pac Man
Ms. Pac-Man is another classic one, that I saw on my list of games and I decided to give it a try too. Who doesn't know about Pacman right? This was his wife trying to gobble all the stuff before the bad guy caught her. I played a few rounds but it got boring quickly for me. There are different levels and maze designs with different entries and exit points and it gets harder with more than one enemy.

There are so many more games from this era that I want to play. This time I was testing the popular ones but in the later episodes I will be doing some underrated gems from this era and will try to see how many I can beat. I can already see myself wasting my life playing all these arcade games.

It's weird to imagine how games like these put their mark on todays modern gaming. Must be hard to believe for someone who wasn't there to witness the evolution.
I love to know that without these beginnings there would be nothing of what we enjoy now, I am also pleased to know that it has been able to overcome the crisis of video games at the time. Of the games you mentioned I have played pacman and space invaders but you brought others to my memory that I played on the sega, thank you very much.
I will play other games in this series. Saga games are still far away.
