Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! Testing new Strategies with KRALUS

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and/or read more about the challenge, click here.

We are just at the end of another season. This was not the best season for me as I had been so busy. Let's ignore that and focus back on learning about more units and building strategies with them.

This week we are learning about more cards and we will focus on a legendary unit called KRALUS. I have not played enough with this unit and it is the right time to see what it can offer in my lineups. This is an expensive unit costing 12 mana but comes with two different types of attacks and some nice abilities. Let's have a look at its stats in detail.

Kralus is a legendary Life unit which came out in the Untamed edition. It comes with some interesting abilities. I had only level 1 but still had two abilities: Immunity and Flying.

It deals with 1 magic attack and 2 melee attacks with 3 speeds. So, not too bad at attacking but this comes with a heavy price of 12 mana and it comes with a good amount of health and shield. But still, can it justify this 12 mana cost?

Let's test it in a battle and find out if it is worth the price.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position 2

Position 5

Position 6

It was a 57-mana battle and it had 3 interesting rulesets:

  • Heavy Hitter - All monsters have the knockout ability.
  • Noxious Fumes - All monsters start the battle poisoned.
  • Briar Patch - All monsters have the Thorns ability.

These were not very restrictive apart from the Briar Patch which made me not use melee attackers. Also, only 3 elements were active: life, death and dragon.

I used the Chanseus the Great as my summoner as it has the Repair, Resurrect and Triage abilities and would have been useful during this battle.

In the first position, I used the Kralus. I don't see it placed anywhere other than the front as is very strong and hard to take down. This was a perfect candidate for a tank in my lineup. It deals with both magic and melee attacks and comes with interesting abilities. The 57 mana cap was enough for me to use it without worrying about its heavy mana cost of 12.

Next was the High Priest Darius. It is a powerful mage dealing 3 magic attacks with 2 speeds. Its resurrect ability is a game-changer and can be a lot of pain for my opponents. Although it only has 6 hp which is less for a 10 mana costing unit.

In the next position, I placed the Time Meddler, which is another powerful mage which deals with 2 magic attacks on its own and comes with Dodge ability. This ability along with its massive health and armour makes it a strong unit.

Next was the Djinn Renova, as you can already guess I was going for a powerful magic attack to decide the battle quickly. This was again a powerful mage dealing 3 magic attacks and had the ability called Strengthen which gave all the friendly units extra health points.

In the fifth position, I used Bila the Radiant, it was yet another mage and dealt 3 magic attacks on its own. But this one comes with two special abilities called Life Leech, which is my favourite ability in the game, and Divine Shield ability. Both of these abilities make it much more difficult to defeat during the battle.

Last but not least was Time Mage. This was only a 4 mana costing unit but it comes with a Slow ability which reduces the speed of the entire enemy fleet. It also deals 2 magic damage but it has just 3 hp on its own.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

With 57 mana and rulesets like Briar Patch and Noxious Fumes, I made sure to make a powerful attacking lineup which can take down the strongest tanks quickly and easily. For this purpose, my Kralus fit perfectly. Its immunity ability was perfect against Noxious Fumes ruleset.

My summoner also had interesting abilities, its triage ability was good enough and I was not looking forward to a long drawn-out battle but a quick kill. I loaded myself with heavy magic attackers and hoped for the best. Mind you I had a good, strong unit at the front of the lineup.

I also used an ability which nerfs all the enemy teams like Slow and also used abilities which should buff my monsters.

Round 1

My opponent went with a death splinter and used the Thaddius Brood to reduce my magic damage and used two heavy tanks at the front of the lineup but both were melee attackers and it turned out to be a stupid decision as they received damage from thorns.

It was a tough round for my opponent, they lost their Harklaw and its armour was useless during this battle. My Time Mage also suffered heavy damage and got eliminated just to be resurrected by my High Priest Darrius.

Round 2

One interesting thing I got to know is the resurrected unit won't be poisoned anymore and this made it last longer. But their Silent Sha-vi was not lucky and got eliminated at the start of the round from poison damage.

It happened again, my Time Mage got up from the ashes again, and this time it was resurrected by my summoner.

After this, another heavy unit got eliminated from my opponent's lineup and now it was looking so bad and still my Kralus was standing at the front of the lineup.

Round 3

Round 3 was just one-sided and we both knew what is going to happen now. At least, they managed to kill the Time Mage for good now. That should be something...lol

They had no precautions against this heavy magic attack and as I expected it was an easy job for my units to take down the two powerful tanks at the front of the lineup. In the end, it was an easy win for me and my Kralus was still standing.

Conclusion

Kralus is a powerful unit which is a good attacker and an excellent defender, it glues to its position and it can be so difficult to take down if you can use some healing on it.

However, the 12 mana cost is still a bit high and that makes it unusable in lower mana cap battles. One should use it carefully in their battles.

Thanks for reading...
