Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and read more about the challenge, click here.

The Rebellion edition is the latest edition of cards in splinterlands and there are a lot of new summoners and monsters which came out with this one. Each week I focus on different monsters and discuss them in detail with strategies that best fit them. This week, we have a common Life unit, Meriput Magician, an interesting unit which can play a useful support role.

Let's start by looking at its stats in detail.

Meriput Magician is a common life unit that came out during the recent Rebellion edition. It costs 5 mana to use and comes with some impressive stats. It deals magic attack damage and comes with 5 health and no extra armour of its own. But it is a good supporting unit as it has the 'Tank Heal' ability which helps the tank last even longer. I prefer to use it with a good, heavy tank and somewhere in the middle of the lineup.

Let me show you how it performs using a battle as an example.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Ilthain
Position 1
Nalara Geinek
Position 2
Chaos Agent
Position 3
Meriput Magician
Position 4
Prismologist
Position 5
Djinn Renova
Position 6
Pelacor Arbalest

It was a 40-mana cap battle with the "Equalizer" ruleset so the initial health of all the monsters was equal to that of the monster on either team with the highest base health.

All the elements were active during this battle. I went with Ilthian which gives the 'return fire' ability to all the friendly monsters.

It should not be a surprise that Nalara Geinek was my tank for this battle as it comes with an 'Amplify' ability which increases the return fire attack damage even more. It also has a huge health and comes with 3 extra armour of its own. All this cost just 9 mana.

The next one in my lineup was Chaos Agent. I used it in the second position and it only cost 1 mana. But due to the ruleset, it will receive more health and will prove to be a tough job to eliminate. All this just for 1 mana is just perfect.

Meriput Magician was placed in the third position, which costs 5 mana and deals 1 magic attack damage with good speed. Its 'tank heal' ability provides good support for my tank and can last even longer.

The next one was Prismologist, a strong-range attacker dealing 3 ranged attack damage and comes with a 'blast' ability which makes it even more lethal. It costs 8 mana for all this explosive power.

Djinn Renova was placed in the next position in my lineup. As you can see I focused more on magic attackers because of the extra health that the units were going to get from the ruleset. It costs 7 mana and deals heavy magic attack damage.

Last but not least was Pelacor Arbalast. It was another ranged attacker which dealt 2 ranged attack damage and cost just 6 mana. It has lower health but it was a good fit in this rule and it also comes with the 'double strike' ability which deals damage twice in each round making it very deadly.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

It was an "Equalizer" ruleset with plenty of mana to spare. So, I focused on using mages and ranged attackers which packs a lot of attacking strength. Because of the ruleset, I could use more units with extra attacks at the cost of lower health. I used the Ilthian as my summoner to give all my units the return fire ability and punish my opponent for using ranged attackers.

Also, I used the Meriput Magician as a support unit which would have supported the units at the first position with heal and they would last even longer. So, my focus was more on attacking strength while I tried to make sure my units lasted longer on the battlefield too.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win in the end.

My opponent went with a range attack damage strategy but I was prepared against it and had 'return fire' to counter all the ranged attacks from them.

Because of the Equalizer ruleset, it was much harder to eliminate the units at the start of the battle as all had 9 health to start with.

The first two rounds were the slowest and just saw the demise of my tank but their ranged attacker was getting weaker as they kept receiving the return damage in those rounds.

My Meriput Magician kept healing the monster at the first position and increasing their life span. Until it came to the first position itself at the end of round 3 and survived the next couple of rounds with ease.

Round 4 saw the demise of their three major ranged attackers and it almost guaranteed my win. I still had many units left. The battle lasted for another couple of rounds.

In the end, it was an easy win for me. My strategy of using the Ilthian and predicting what the opponent's gonna use and also supporting the first unit with heal helped a lot in this battle.

Conclusion

As you just saw in the above battle, Meriput Magician plays a crucial role in your lineup, not only does it increase the attacking strength of your lineup by dealing magic attack damage, but it also adds to the defensive strength and having it in your lineup will support the tank and make it last much longer. I use it generally in the middle of the lineup as it doesn't come with a lot of health. It glues the entire lineup and is a very supportive unit.

Costing just 5 mana is not such a high cost, especially keeping its stats and ability in mind. It works well in medium to high-range mana cap battles. It is extremely effective against units with armour as it deals with magic attack damage. I recommend it. Let me know if you find it useful as well.
