WAKE UP! Let him suck the Life Essense out of you! HOLLOW KNIGHT

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

One of the best games I have played is "Hollow Knight", it is a metroidvanian action-adventure RPG with amazing world design and beautifully hand-drawn graphics and smooth mechanics and controls. The world is quite big and sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming, especially when you are stuck at a particular place or boss fight. The game does have some challenging boss battles and platforming sections.

I was stuck in one such place, it is an arena called the "Colloseum of Fools" which has three different challenges. I spent way too long on the second challenge which discouraged me and I didn't play it for weeks but I skipped it and moved on to the other sections. I think I have to come back here after I gain more health, abilities, skills etc.

I collected my shade and dashed out of that place. The super dash is an amazing movement ability that lets me dodge those bomber birds like enemies.

I went down from a long vertical section which connects the Kingdom's Edge to the City of Tears and that city is a big place and there were still some uncharted sections.

I cleared all the enemies and searched for any hidden sections that I might have missed. This game has some hidden secrets like breakable walls or just hidden paths that are not obvious and are well hidden.

The city connects to the 'Resting Grounds' in the north and I went to explore it again. Every time you get a new movement ability or skill some new sections open up and I recently got the double jump and the shade ability which let me go through the black barriers present in some parts of the map. So, it is always good to have another look.

Also, I keep going back to the Resting Grounds because I love the music in this part, it is very melancholic and still calming. I would love this music to be played at my funeral...lol

But something else drew my attention here. The statue that showed the three dreamers. Monomon the Teacher, Lurien the Watcher and Herrah the Beast.

Lurien the Watcher is said to be looking over the city. And I could see the big mask sign on the map but I couldn't find any place that led me there or I didn't search hard enough. Okay, I decided at that point. My next objective will be to find a way to get to this dreamer.

I looked at the map carefully and found two potential entry gates to unexplored territory. I went straight for those. These places were from the central part of the City.

I kept clearing all the pesky bugs and found new unexplored territory soon. I was happy and finally making some progress after a long time. The second jump helps a lot in both combat and exploration.

One of the bigger knights is so annoying to get rid of, it has a longer strike range and a shield so I have to focus on precise timing. It also deals double the damage so it can take you out rather easily.

Soon, I found a new resting bench too! Which puts all the newly explored areas on the map.

As I went higher in the City, I encountered more and more bugs, those annoying knights were the worst of them all. The good thing is you can now easily jump over them and entirely skip those fights if you don't want to, but they give a good amount of coins too.

There were a lot of elevators in this part of the city which took me higher and higher. I knew I was close to the dreamer.

I found a trapped Grub after a long time and saved it. I had to kill a few more enemies to get to it but nothing difficult.

One of the longest elevators took me to a suspicious-looking room. I could sense something wrong as soon as I entered there. I was still a bit away from the dreamer so what could these be?

Watcher Knight

It was time for another Boss Battle, as I entered into the room, the door shut down on both sides and seemingly dead bugs came to life. The shells got filled with swarms of infested flies and got back to life.

It had a long nail and a tough shell at the back. One of their attack types is the rolls on the floor which surprised me initially.

It took me some time to kill one and then two more got back to life and I knew this fight would take a lot of tries. I was in low health after killing just one of them and there were two more being brought back to life and three more dead. Naturally, I died a lot of times in this section.

I was getting myself familiar with all the attack patterns, finding openings to heal and testing the best situations to use my spells so it attacks two of them.

It was one of the toughest boss battles I faced because of the number of Knights you must kill. Five Knights one after the other and after killing the first you have to handle two at the same time. Their roll attacks are fast and unpredictable, especially when you have to keep both in mind. It will get easier as you retry more and more. Also, some charms work better.

I loved the 'Quick Slash' charm which lets me strike faster and deal that extra strike easily. It makes a lot of difference as the quicker you kill them the more chances you winning this fight.

I must have died at least 5 times but eventually, I got a lucky run and managed to kill them. I was lucky during that specific try as I was on one health for a long amount of time.

Anyway, I expected some nice rewards like a charm notch or a new charm after this tough fight but didn't find anything immediately. The gates opened and another set of elevators led me even higher. I was quite close to the dreamer now.

I found some Geos and artefacts, a Hollownest seal to be more specific which I can sell for more Geos.

A long elevator took me to the highest point of the City, there was a telescope which must have been used by 'Lurien the Watcher' to look over the city. I had a peek too and this is what I saw.

On the right, the dreamer was sleeping on a platform. I thought I had to fight him too!

I used my dream nail which took me into the dream realm.

Lurien was floating passively and I beat the crap out of him and sucked all the dream essence! That was all I had to do and I was scared that it would be a huge boss fight.

A cutscene played showing the "Temple of Time" and the breaking of one of the masks. I made huge progress and now I have to kill (?) or wake up (not sure what I did...lol) two more dreamers now and have to enter the Temple of Time and see what secret it holds. It took me a lot of time to finally did this and now I think it will get easier.

I went to the nearby bench to rest. It was a long session but I loved it. Made a lot of progress, killed the annoying Watcher Knights and got one of the dreamers. Just two more to go and the secrets of Hallownest will be out in the open!
