Why is there so much suffering in the world? (ecoTrain's QUESTION OF THE WEEK 9.2)

avatar

Hello, @ecotrain community, I recently discovered this community, and what better way to introduce myself to the community than by taking part in this week's question, - "If there is a God why is there so much suffering in the world?".

As we all know life of joy as well as suffering. For some, it's more suffering than joy and this imbalance will tend to make someone less religious and more of an atheist. But we can't blame someone for not believing in God when all they experience is just suffering throughout their life.

I have discussed this question so many times with my friends in the past and believe me, I have got so many different responses to that. The most common answer I got was "Karma". They say it's all their "Karma" and they must have done some bad deeds in the past and now they are just paying for those.

"How can a child born with a life-threatening disability have done something bad?", I asked
To this, they respond, "It's could be from their past lives"

You see, in some cultures, there is this concept of rebirth and people believe in reincarnation and my religion, Hinduism, is one of them.

"But, it doesn't make any sense? No one is aware of their past life, why should they be punished for something which they don't even remember?" I asked.
To this, some have no answer others say, it's the nature of the universe itself.

Here I would like to quote from Bhagawat Geeta, considered to be an ultimate spiritual guide from the Lord himself.

आब्रह्मभुवनाल्ल‍ोका: पुनरावर्तिनोऽर्जुन ।
मामुपेत्य तु कौन्तेय पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते ॥ १६ ॥

Meaning - From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death take place. But one who attains to My abode, O son of Kuntī, never takes birth again.source

Here, Lord Krishna himself says that life itself is a misery for all and the only way to avoid this misery is by attaining "Mosksh" which is mentioned in other places as well. I don't know if I am ready to believe this, I see life other than misery, it's full of joy and rich experience. At times, it does feel like misery though.

I don't believe in God or how can I say this, I don't think that there is enough evidence to prove that there is God, at least not in the sense that most people define God.
I am more of an Agnostic person (a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God). I just like to question everything. Still open to discussions and all. Most people confuse God and Religion with Spirituality. I think the universe itself is a living entity, we just don't have enough mental and spiritual capabilities to see that.

I know this might sound offensive to some people but I will still say it- If emotions are created by our brains and whether we will feel sad or joy, excited or bored, angry or calm every emotion is controlled by us why won't we work on ourself and try to focus on those emotions which will help us feel better, calm and relaxing?! I know it's tough but, hey. we can't control every outside situation at least we can control how we will react to something.

So, in short - No, I don't think suffering is caused by God, we humans are much more capable of doing that to our own and to others. I wish and hope that all this suffering ends as soon as possible. And I believe that We need to work on an individual level to achieve that outcome.

No! to be honest i did like it. I mean i like how it ended.
God doesn't like to see us suffer, plus we are the ones hurting ourselves.
The part of karma, after life etc...
I was trying to avoid long text comment 😂
Plus it only made it easier that i was agreeing with you.

Otherwise... My keyboard warrior mojo would've bern activated🤼😂

They tried to explain things with religions and beliefs to attract more customers to their "better and all knowing god" but they have always failed to a large? degree.

I stay away from any religion as far as possible. I also stay away from "atheism" as it became itself a religion and set of beliefs without them noticing it.

I guess everything that ends with "-ism" is bad. 🤷‍♂️

As for the question itself, I won't discuss it here, otherwise I would've entered the #ecotrain question thingie..

But my views can be very unpopular to the masses, and they hate hearing truths 😛
So I'll just do my part and ease their suffering by not talking about it. 😁

Peace ✌

And ofcourse a !PIZZA is in order to alleviate suffering.

Yes, they have failed but not actually. To me, they are f**king successful in gaining masses and that's what they needed.

I also stay away from "atheism"...

That's why I said Agnostic if you give me proof of the all-knowing God, I might believe in him/her. But until then I am just skeptical.

I had to put a disclaimer here...LOL

!PIZZA back to you.

This was a great post man I echo a lot of what you talk about here, one thing is though humans have the power to change everything we could all work together to cause suffering or make the world a better place the problem is we can't decide what we want to do. You will always have people that think one way and others that think the opposite we could change so many things but we never will unfortunately because of this fact. I'm not talking about communities like HIVE here that come together and support each other but the world as a whole if everyone bought in and wanted real change worldwide it would be a much different place but humans like to disagree and have different approaches/thoughts about certain issues. I think that is vital as well I don't want to see everybody just agree with each other however, I think we could all come together to change so much of the suffering that does exist in the world.

Thanks for sharing this, I loved it and was a great read

That's the main crux of the problem, people tend to disagree on everything which didn't come from their own heads.

One thing I didn't mention here is the educational aspect of the situation. We are not taught about cohesion and living together, we are educated to become the sole leader and to gain the maximum power...which all is bs to me. We need more spiritual lessons which focus on an individual level and how everyone is essentially connected or dependant on others.

Anyway...thanks for reading it. Much love brother. 🙃

Your point of view on the ecoTrain question is really interesting. In one thing we agree,

we humans are much more capable of doing that to our own and to others.

This is true and as to our emotions, it is up to us to choose the ones we want to feel. If a person prefers sadness and misery, then it will surround him or her but if we choose happiness, then we will get it. 😃

Interesting thoughts. I don't know. I think this life is all pretty random. I could be seriously wrong, though. But that's my feeling... It's all as random as throwing dice around.

This question has no logical answers. Suffering is itself a subjective thing.

I guess, this randomness is what makes life interesting...right..?

Thanks for reading my post ✌🏻🙏🏻
