Husband Material

Right from the beginning of time, there are some unwritten rules that everyone seem to follow without any questions asked. A lot of things people shouldn't do because they belong to a specific gender. A man shouldn't cry simply because he's a man and a lady should never under any circumstances be the first to confess her feelings to any guy neither should she agree to be his girlfriend on the first day he ask her out, she has to "think about it" for a few days even though deep down she knows that she wants nothing more than to be in his arms forever.

One time this particular friend of mine (let's call her Hannah) who I had a thing for had told me told me that if only I had persisted a little longer, that she would have said yes. The whole thing was sort of funny to me because this was someone who had bluntly told me that she didn’t want to be in a relationship with anyone at the moment and now she’s trying to make me feel bad for not “being more persistent” maybe because she was my main purpose of coming to life (Lol).

The funny thing about the whole thing was that if I had persisted, she easily could have told everyone that I was harassing her and that could have landed me in trouble.

“Well why did you say No in the first place when you know you liked me?” I remember asking her.

“I’m a lady and as a lady it’s expected of me to say no the first few times before finally saying yes” Hannah had given me one of the dumbest replies ever while smiling sheepishly as if she just gave Einstein a run for his money with her “brilliant response”.

“Well if one bank refuses to open an account for you, it’s only normal you try another different bank” I had given her the famous quote that is very common among we Nigerians while also smiling. I wanted her know that I had no regrets and that I had moved on.

And it was clear she got the message because she immediately remembered there was “something important” she had to do and left.

As she walked away, I couldn’t help but shake my head because she had no idea what she just lost out on, a complete spec like me or like we Nigerians will say, a husband material. 😁
