Life's Irony

As a kid, movies, and most parents have always given us this mentality that people who do great in school are the ones who eventually will make it the most in life.

Of course the older I got, the more I realized that was bullshit, but then I never got to see it in real life myself until earlier this year.

You see, back in high school, I used to know this guy in my class who always played all the time. And he wasn't the kind of kid who played the usual kind of play a kid our age would play. No, he was adventurous and very rough. One time he had jumped from the first floor of our school to the ground floor and ended up getting suspended for some days because our principal witnessed the whole thing.

So he was very very rough, and it turns out having that kind of mindset also meant you'd be able to take stupid risks as an adult to achieve whatever it is you set your mind out to achieve, and that was exactly what happened.

I met with him a couple of months ago, and he told me stories of the time he had to run for his life because he had pissed off the wrong person. He told me of his struggles and how he eventually got to where he was currently.

To be honest, all of that didn't necessarily come as a surprise to me, considering it was coming from him. But at the end of the day, his stubbornness got him to where he wanted to be, and he was clearly reaping the fruit of his labor.

Who knows? Maybe if I had been a bit more stubborn as a child and not always trying to be the good child, maybe I would be doing a lot better for myself right now.
