Grandma Stella looked at her husband with those loving old eyes of hers. She and Thomas had been married for sixty-two years and there hasn’t been a day she regretted ever making the decision of getting married to him.

Back then in the past, a lot of suitors had come to ask for Stella’s hand in marriage, a marriage proposal that she had all turned down. Stella remembered her mom trying to convince her to get married to a very wealthy man. Her mom had tried to make her see the benefits to being a rich man’s wife and Stella probably would have accepted the proposal if the man wasn’t almost the same age as that of his father. She had turned him down and that had made her mother angry, and what infuriated her more was when Stella came home with Thomas, the love of her life.

Thomas was a middle age man who wasn’t doing so bad for a man his age, but Stella’s mom wanted wealth and not even her husband could stop her from getting it. Stella’s dad had been cool with his daughter getting married to any man of her choice “her happiness was all that truly matters to him” he would always tell her but her mom had been adamant and always made sure to embarrass Thomas whenever she could, all in the hopes that he would get fed up and leave but she obviously underestimated the love those two had for each other.

It took a lot of convincing and tears from Stella for her mom to finally accept Thomas and that day had been the happiest day of her life.

She smiled as she watched her grandkids run into the room. “Shhh we don’t want to wake grandpa up now, do we?” Stella asked the kids.

“Too late.” Thomas replied as he slowly reached for his glasses. “Come to grandpa” he said to the kids as they happily ran into his outstretched arms.

I hope that in their old age, Grandma Stella and Grandpa Thomas are always well, and their grandchildren are always doing well.

Hopefully we can all take the example of Stella and Thomas' grandmother, until the end of her life
