The Break In

Eric made sure not to make any kind of noise as he slowly opened the door to his friend’s house. He walked slowly and carefully, one step at a time as he watched for any form of sudden movement. One look at the place and he could tell that something really bad had happened here. He could not see clearly as the whole house was dark and he dared not turn on the light as whoever it was that may have attacked his friend might still be in the house.

Not too long ago, Eric had received a call from his friend Mike, but before he could say anything, he heard something that sounded like a struggle at the background before the line went dead. He tried calling back but no one answered and after the first ring, the phone was switched off.

He immediately got into his car and drove straight to Mike’s house but by the look of things, he was too late. The whole place looked like there was no one there. Eric first thought had been to call the police, he couldn’t believe something like this was happening on a day like this. It was his birthday and him and the boys had all agreed to spend the evening getting drunk to stupor.

“Hold on a second, you might be overreacting.” Eric tried to calm himself down as he looked around for anything that might indicate that his friend was indeed in trouble. He knew that even if he called the police, he needed to give them something to make them act quickly, or else they will insist on waiting on the usual 72 hours before someone can be declared missing.

So he brought out his phone and tried his friend’s number one more time. “The number you’ve dialed is currently switched off” the automated voice on the telephone said as he angrily placed the phone in his pocket. Then another thought crossed his mind and he quickly brought his phone out again. He should call the rest of the guys and tell them what has happened, they might have an idea on what to do, he thought. But every number he dialed was either switched off or not available. So Eric decided that was it, he called the police.

As the phone rang, he slowly walked towards Mike’s bedroom and just as he touched the door handle, someone answered the call.. “Hello this is 911, how may I help you?”

“Hello, my friend is..”

“Surprised!” Eric screamed out in shocked as the bright light coming from the bulb that was just flick on along with the screams coming from everyone in the room almost gave him a heart attack.

It took him a while, but by the time he was able to calm himself, his friends had told the police over the phone that it was just a prank for a surprise birthday party.

“Oh God, I need new friends” Eric muttered.

Woah! I was already frightened to the core but wait the police would wait 72 hours before what? Oh heavens! This world is becoming something else. What an interesting story, I had to picture everything as if live and trust me the climax was at it's peak. Nice one again and for that I'll share my !PIZZA with you. Enjoy 😁
