The one night stand

Stella allowed the tears flow freely down her cheeks as she could no longer hold it anymore.

“What was I thinking going there?” She asked herself and as she angrily drove away.

Few weeks ago, Stella had gone to have a good time at the club when she met mike. Mike had approached her and asked her for a dance. There had been something about the way Mike talked to her that made her accept his request. The two had danced that night like there was no one else in the club and the dance floor was all theirs.

Later the next morning, Stella had woken up with a terrible hangover. If not for the headache threatening to split her head into two, Stella would have screamed out her lungs in fear when her hand touched someone lying right next to her on her bed. But memories of the previous night started coming back and the terrified expression on her face started changing into something naughty. Stella remembered how Mike had wanted to rent a room in an hotel that night but she had insisted they went to her place instead, seeing that it was very close by. The rest of the details of what happened later that night was for Stella and only Stella alone.

Mike had had left her place later that day but not before collecting her number. He had promised to ask her out on a proper date and Stella had agreed, even though to her, she felt this was all just a one night thing and nothing more was going to come out of it. But as days went by, Stella found herself thinking more of Mike than anyone else. She tried all her possible best not to call him and when he called, she tried to hide her excitement.

Mike had been true to his words and had taken Stella out on two dates, he had given her the address to his place on the second date, promising to cook for her whenever she was free to come around.

“I don’t want to end up in an hospital after eating your meal.” Stella had joked with Mike and they both had laughed so hard.

“Just come around, you will be amazed.” Mike had said to her that night before dropping her off at her place.

But later that night, Stella had not been feeling too well and had visited the hospital the next day when she found out that she was two weeks pregnant. She had immediately driven to Mike’s home using the address he gave to her but what Stella saw when she broke her heart.

Stella had not driven home straight, she had gone over to a friends to cool off before driving home later that night. As she got to her to her house, she saw Mike sitting right in front of her door.

“Stella, I’ve been here all day worried about you.” Mike said getting up on his feet.

“You! What are you doing here?”

“Stella calm down, it’s not what you think.” Mike said calmly.

“You’re married, it is what I think!” Stella said at the top of her voice.

“I was married.”

“Huh? What about the lady and the child I saw?” Stella said, remembering what she had seen when she visited Mike earlier that day.

“That’s my daughter’s nanny, my wife is dead.” Mike continued. “I know I should have told you about it but I just didn’t know how, that was why I had invited you over, to tell you everything. I love you Stella, and I would love to spend the rest of my life with you.” Mike said as he drew close to her and hugged her as tears came down her cheeks.

“I have something to tell you but first let go inside.” Stella said as she unlocked her door. Her assumptions almost ended something beautiful, it won’t be happening again.

You draw a circle around the story: It begins with misunderstanding and ends with a determination not to have the same misunderstanding again. The story itself is one of whirlwind romance, a romance that in the end is a good thing.

Thank you for sharing this story with the Ink Well community. And thank you for consistently engaging with other writers in the community.

Beautiful story bro.
Stella jumped into conclusion, but i was a good thing Mike went after her and explained everything to her. I am glad she accepted everything. I hope the news of her pregnancy brings good news to Mike and his daughter.

Excellent writing bro💯❤

Hello @prayzz,
Most of us don't live in a world anymore where couples meet through family connections and village contacts. Most of us live in a universe where the choice of mate is kind of happenstance. We often meet strangers, at work or at a social event and circumstances such as that experienced by Stella may arise. It's not really a safe or predictable world she navigates as she looks for romance. But she's lucky. Mike is a nice guy. Readers want him to be a nice guy.

Thanks for giving us the ending we hoped for.

It's a well-developed story and I enjoyed reading it.

As I always say: keep writing! Your imagination may be the only place where you have complete freedom.😇

This is a charming story, @prayzz. So many thoughts come to mind, from wishing Stella would get to know Mike better before spending the night with him to wondering what will happen once she learns she is pregnant from a one-night stand. I definitely did not see that happy ending coming!
