Hellloooo! Hope all are in good health amd happy in this beautiful life!

In my one of the post I shared about the UNESCO Heritage site Channakesava Temple at Belur. Today I am sharing about Halebidu Temple. The name of the Temple is Hoysaleswara Temple also Known as Halebidu Temple which is situated In Hassan District of Karnataka.
India has one of the finest collection of sculpture and artwork.

This twin shrine temple is largest temple surviving till now which was built by Hoysalas. This temple is also old temple like Channakesava Temple. It is 12th century Temple. It is larget monument in Halebidu. The main deity of This Temple is Lord Shiva.

The temple is double temple of Lord Shiva but it has a single building, designed as a two temples side bybside.
Outside the temple there are two shrines of Nandi. North Nandi shrines and South Nandi shrines. One nandi is little smaller in size than the other one which is 7 feet tall facing the sanctum.

The temple was craved from soapstone. Soapstone is soft and easier to carve into shapes and hardens over time when comes in contact to air.

The Temple was plundered by the Muslim armies. There are so many ruins still in the complex. The ruins are of the Hoysala architecture.

The artwork of the temple shows the life and the culture in 12th century. It is said that in Hoysala Period there was 1500 temples.

The artwork on the outer walls are beautifully crafted like we can see marching elephants, lions, horsemen in different different postures, peacocks, friezes , festivals, dieties, dancing goddeses saraswati etc.

On the outer wall we can see Krishna lilas from Geeta, krishna lifting Govardhana Mountain, krishna playing flutes, Ramayana, the Arjun Krishna episodes from Mahabharat,Shiva with Ganesha and Kartikeya, Rama fighting Ravana from the Ramayana etc many more artwork we can see in every wall.

It's a shame that there isn't a group (or I haven't found one yet) that deals with historical monuments, castles, chateaux, etc. I don't know if, for example, pinmapple is the right place to send a post
