Hello hiveans! Hope all are good.
Growing up Rajma chawal(red kidney beans and steamed Rice) was made every week at home. The pipping hot Rajma and steamed Rice with a dollop of ghee that brings everyone together. Today I am sharing a Punjabi dish Rajma Chawal recipe!

Rajma Chawal is favorite combo in North Indians households.
Every Indian household has its own version of Rajma. I usually make Rajma once a week for any meal of the day. It creates a full protein ,which can sometimes be difficult to have as a vegan. So not only is rajma is tasty, it is healty and wholesome.🤗

The method is simple and typical Punjabi style with spicy onion tomato paste. Rajma itself has so much flavour that even the most basic masalas can make it taste awesome! You can choose any variety of kidney beans. I like to use red beans.

This recipe is very easy way to make Rajama masala. The garvy is thick and will melt in your mouth..🤤

So let's get to cooking it, shall we?

METHOD-

Before you cook rajma, it is important to soak them for 8 to 10 hours.
Soaking helps tenderise the beans for cooking and it removes phytic acid which makes it easier to digest beans.

●Soak rajma overnight and Cook the rajma in pressure cooker for 5 to 6 whistle on low flame and let the pressure relaese naturally.

●Heat oil in a kadhai add cumin seeds, bay leaves, cloves, cinamon stick. Saute for a minute.

●Then add finely chopped Onions.

●Cook for 3 to 4 minutes and add garlic paste. Cook for 2 mins more.

●Then add tomato puree.

●Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and salt.

●Mix all the Ingredients properly and cook partially covered for 10 to 12 minutes till the oil starts coming on the top and sides.

●Add cooked Rajma along.

● Add the rajma water along with one cup of water to the pan.

●Mix well and let this simmer for 10 to 15 mins till the garvy thicken.

●continue stirring at intervals when the rajama masala is simmering.

●the masala has to be thicken and the curry has to be of the right consistency, which is neither too thick nor thin.

● once the consitency is right add crushed kasuri Methi and garam masala. Finally add a spoon if Ghee and mix well.

●Sprinkle it with some coriander leaves and serve hot with Steamed Rice!

You don't even need any second dish with this. Just serve it with rotis, Naan, steamed or Jeera rice with lots of slice onions and you will get pure comfort Food at its best!
