Tom Cotton pitches US troops as a 'viable solution' for invading Gaza
WTF? As far as I know, no outside power has the slightest interest in getting bogged down in Gaza. Israel may want to destroy Hamas but has made it clear that a long-term occupation of Gaza is off the table (but how Israel can avoid that is an open question). Fatah and the PLO are understandably in no rush to do the Israelis any favors. As far as Egypt is concerned, Gaza is a pain in the ass. And I can’t imagine that the UN Security Council would vote to send peacekeepers in, let alone find countries willing to send their soldiers to police the place. US troops would have bright shiny targets on their backs. Remnants of Hamas would certainly try their best to hit those targets, as would the other Islamist groups there, not to mention “lone wolves.”

Trump’s Pardon of Loan Shark Derailed Federal Probe
Very early in the morning on Donald Trump‘s last day in office, the president announced he was pardoning Jonathan Braun, a loan shark who had been convicted of running a vast marijuana ring. Braun, who at the time was serving a 10-year sentence, was pardoned along with 142 others, including rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black.
Trump’s move undermined a years-long federal investigation, the New York Times reported Sunday. The paper also uncovered ties between Braun and the family of Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Biden to Skip U.N. Climate Summit
President Biden will not attend a major United Nations climate summit that begins Thursday in Dubai, skipping an event expected to be attended by King Charles III, Pope Francis and leaders from nearly 200 countries.
The official, who asked to remain anonymous to discuss the president’s schedule, did not give a reason Mr. Biden will not make an appearance at the two-week summit, known as COP28.
But senior White House aides suggested that the war between Israel and Hamas had consumed the president in recent weeks and days, as he pressed for a pause in fighting and release of hostages held by Hamas.
